T-shirt Rags

posted by Andrea | 10/30/2010 | 19 comments

The other day, in the middle of one of my speed-cleaning sessions, I pulled a rag from our “rag basket” and realized we could probably use a few new ones. We had lots of “holey” rags, stained rags, dirty and grimy rags — it wan’t pretty! I guess I just figure, they are rags…and I should use them until I can’t use them anymore, right?  At least I’m not using rolls and rolls of papertowel {see, I’m “going green”!!} However, while many […]

Old Fashion Chicken Pot Pie

posted by Andrea | 10/29/2010 | 22 comments

Chicken Pot Pie is one of my all-time favorite comfort foods {kind of like chicken soup I suppose} and if you’ve never eaten pot pie made from scratch, you are really missing out!  REALLY. This is one of those meals that doesn’t require any side dishes {hallelujah}. The meat, potatoes, and veggies are all there, inside a flaky pie crust. You can also forget the crust, put biscuits on top and serve it as a chicken stew. Either way, it’s a […]

Tell Your Time e-Book

I’m a time-management “junkie” — but you already knew that didn’t you? Well, you do now! I’m obsessed with making lists, planning out my days, and finding short-cuts to increase my productivity. Doing these things helps me accomplish so much more and even allots me a little time to do what I love {imaging that!} How About You? Would you like to learn how to better manage your time, increase your productivity, and make more time for the things you love? I […]

UPDATE: This giveaway is now closed. The winner is Tracy — please contact me to claim your prize! I carry a big,  slouchy bag-type purse — which is great for carrying LOTS of stuff, but it can get really disorganized if I don’t make an effort to keep it organized. Oh, and I have a few fun purse organizers that help me to keep everything in order! I’m a big fan of ALL organizing products —  but purse organizers are some of […]

My Ideas Book

posted by Andrea | 10/26/2010 | 12 comments

For those of you who don’t know me, my dream house is a big, old farmhouse just waiting for me to move in and completely renovate it from the inside out. {I know, I’m crazy!} And even though I don’t live in my dream house just yet, I’ve been collecting ideas for years already…many, MANY years! I’ve been searching through magazines, newspapers, books, and the internet; looking for inspirational ideas for my dream house, and when I find something I like, I rip […]

The Value of Your Time

posted by Andrea | 10/25/2010 | 3 comments

I led a time-management workshop this past weekend and we spent a good chunk of the workshop discussing the value of time. How much is your time {or my time} worth? What are you willing to give up to get more time? Great questions, huh? We’ve all heard the saying, “time is money” and to a certain degree, I believe that saying is true. However I feel there are plenty of situations when time is MUCH more valuable than money. Don’t you think? The […]

Frosted Banana Bars

posted by Andrea | 10/23/2010 | 4 comments

There are a handful of desserts I make every fall. Most of them include pumpkin, apples, cinnamon, nuts, or chocolate — but not this one. Frosted Banana Bars {or cake} is one of my favorite desserts; partially because it is REALLY easy to make, but also because we always have rotten bananas in the freezer — and this recipe makes a huge batch! Photo Credit: Sugar Cooking I always keep a few containers of rotten bananas in the freezer; I store […]

The Season for Giving — 64 days and counting

posted by Andrea | 10/22/2010 | 3 comments

I’ve been thinking a lot about clutter free gifts {again!} No, I’m not a scrooge and I don’t hate gifts — but I do hate all the needless clutter and overspending that seems to accompany every holiday season. Last year, Dave and I gave {and received} plenty of great gifts, but one thing we decided to give everyone on our list was a donation {made out in their name} to the Christian Reformed World Relief Committee {CRWRC}. We felt this was a great organization to […]

Finding Great Coupons — The Simple Way

posted by Andrea | 10/20/2010 | 4 comments

DISCLAIMER — If you have vast amounts of extra time and money, you probably don’t need to read this post! I LOVE saving money and finding great deals — I think it’s in my blood! However, I also value my time and try to only spend time on things that are important to me and my family. Sometimes, I am able to save both time and money, other times I have to choose what is more important, saving time OR saving money. […]

Kitchen Clutter & Empty Cabinets

posted by Andrea | 10/19/2010 | 9 comments

I had so much fun clearing out my food storage container clutter! I started with this cluttered mess… and ended with this! It’s still not perfect, but all the containers have lids, there are no more gross stains, and I have room for my new Stack Mates! But I didn’t stop there! I literally went through every drawer and cabinet in my kitchen and took out anything we haven’t used recently or don’t need… I was ruthless! {In case you can’t tell, […]

Simple Ways to Prepare Your Home for Fall

posted by Andrea | 10/18/2010 | 4 comments

It’s that time of year again… time to start preparing my home and garden for cold West Michigan winter. This is not necessarily something I look forward to — but it saves me lots of time the following spring when I want to get outside and start planting flowers. The whole process really isn’t THAT bad, and we spread it out over a few weekends. Need a few ideas to get started? Here are a few things we do to prepare […]

Email Clutter {Revisited}

posted by Andrea | 10/16/2010 | 2 comments

We’re talking about email clutter — again! Two weeks ago I mentioned how I’m clearing some of my email clutter in an effort to check my email less. Since then, I’ve received even more questions about email clutter — specifically SPAM and e-newsletter subscriptions. Unfortunately, I don’t have a magic wand that I can wave to make it all magically disappear…but I do have a VERY simple solution that should drastically reduce the amount of SPAM and junk e-newsletters in your Inbox! Unsubscribe: I received the following idea from […]

Favorite Fall Foods

posted by Andrea | 10/15/2010 | 5 comments

I know I’m bias, but I am willing to bet that West Michigan is one of the prettiest places to live in the fall. The colors are absolutely beautiful right now…and the sun just continues to shine! It’s still warm enough to open the windows for a few hours in the afternoon {which is not normal for October} and it’s cool enough to have the oven on all day. So I’ve been baking up a storm and stocking my freezer […]

Creating a Home Inventory — Protect Your Assets

posted by Andrea | 10/13/2010 | 1 comment

Things have been pretty crazy around the Dekker house lately. To make a VERY long story very short — we’re moving! I’ll share more about the old, OLD farmhouse we’re buying later! I’ve never really moved before…this is totally new territory for me. I lived in the same house my entire life. Sure, I “shuffled” a few of my belongings to and from college each semester, but I never moved. Even when I got married, we hardly had anything to move. However, […]

A Daily Planner — What Works for Me

posted by Andrea | 10/12/2010 | 12 comments

It’s no secret that my planner is one of my top ten favorite organizing tools; I take it with me where ever I go. Honestly, I don’t know what I would do if I lost my planner — let’s just say it wouldn’t be pretty! And about this time every year, I come to the page in my planner that reminds me it’s time to purchase another calendar insert for the upcoming year…which is {for some odd reason} extremely exciting […]

Food Storage Containers + Giveaway!

posted by Andrea | 10/11/2010 | 45 comments

If you are like most people {including myself} you probably have some pretty grungy looking food storage containers hanging out in one or more of your kitchen cabinets. You might even have some stashed away in your basement or garage — just in case! Am I right?? Well, this weekend, I was in the mood to purge — so decided it was time to purge some of my food storage containers. I’ve seen worse, but for me, this was out […]

I’m Purging…Again!

posted by Andrea | 10/9/2010 | 9 comments

Yup, I’m at it again! Everything you see here {and lots more} is going…going…GONE. It feels great! I know, I just purged a bunch of stuff 2 months ago…but that was a mini purge! This is bigger — MUCH bigger. I usually start feeling antsy about how much “stuff” I have every time the seasons change…which is why I took 2 hours this week and ruthlessly went through my closet and my dresser drawers; purging anything and everything I don’t […]

Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Muffins

posted by Andrea | 10/7/2010 | 4 comments

One of my favorite baking ingredients is pumpkin puree — especially in the fall. I’m a lover of all things pumpkin — pumpkin pie, pumpkin cheesecake, pumpkin bread, pumpkin dips. I eat them all! I love pumpkin puree so much that I even tried {with much success} to grow pumpkins in my garden a few years ago. It was great, except that they took over half our back yard!  I may have gotten a little carried away… I’ve worked hard to […]
