Guess what friends? Today, you get to read a guest post from one of my all-time favorite people… Dave!

I think what he has to say will be encouraging to SOOOOO many of you stay-at-home and work-at-home parents who sometimes feel like you have little to nothing to show for yourself at the end of the day — besides stained clothing and a pile of dirty dishes in the sink.

Dave and I intentionally tried to simplify our 2013 Christmas Break. We’ve just been so busy, and we know things will only get busier with a new baby, so we’ve been doing a lot of relaxing lately.

We were also gifted a fabulous local getaway to the Homewood Suites by Hilton — Grand Rapids. It was the icing on top of our super relaxing Christmas break!

I have a surprise post for Dave today!

You see, tomorrow is Dave’s 32nd birthday, and since I don’t usually talk a ton about Dave here on the blog, I thought it might be the perfect timing for a little post about the man I’ve loved for almost a decade.

Dave and I celebrated our 7th wedding anniversary this past Sunday, and since I always try to get a picture of us on our anniversary, we asked my sister to take a few quick shots after church.

Nora normally loves the camera and says “cheese” whenever we point the lens her way. But, it was warm, we were hungry, Nora was tired, and well… this is what we ended up with.

Next weekend, Dave and I will celebrate our 7-year wedding anniversary… however, tomorrow marks the 8th “anniversary” of our engagement. We won’t actually celebrate, but it’s such a fun story, I just had to share it with you.

I still smile and get goosebumps every single time I reminisce about our engagement story…

Eight years ago today, Dave and I went on our very first date — and on that date, I noticed that he had an ironing board set up in his room. I thought maybe he was just trying to impress me… but it turns out he really likes nicely ironed clothing!

Eight years later, he still irons several times a week… which means I never, ever iron :)
Today, I’m sharing some of Dave’s favorite features about our brand new Hamilton Beach iron.

Yesterday, Dave’s brother got married… so their anniversary is now June 29. Our anniversary is today, June 30. And tomorrow (July 1) Dave’s sister and her husband will celebrate their 7th anniversary. Three siblings — three anniversaries — one weekend!

I’m reminded, almost daily, how perfect Dave is for me… especially now that I get to watch him be a dad. Here’s to many more years of road trips Dave :)

Dave is a high school teacher…which means he can’t just pick up his cell phone to answer my call or send me a text message at a moment’s notice {especially since students aren’t allowed to used cell phones in class!}

Because of our crazy schedules, we’ve had to come up with alternate methods to communicate with each other throughout the day… mostly so I don’t go insane keeping everything inside :)

I shared my thoughts about how to help your kids stay organized a week or so ago, and today… I’m going to talk about dealing with a messy spouse!

Unfortunately, there is NOT a “quick fix” or easy solution for a messy spouse, but here are a few things you can do to “teach” your spouse to be more organized.

I Can’t Believe It’s Been Five Years!

Today is Dave and my FIVE year anniversary!! And even though our marriage is definitely not perfect {I assume none are} we truly are each other’s perfect match! For example: I really like to cook and bake. Dave really likes to eat, and he almost always does the dishes before I even ask. I hate to iron. Dave is a master “ironer” and does all our ironing. I don’t like driving. Dave loves to drive. I really enjoy painting {which has come […]

Why I Married a Math Teacher

posted by Andrea | 09/13/2010 | 14 comments

The start of the school year always gets me thinking about teachers…probably because I’m married to one and I see all the work he puts into lesson plans, tests, and grading every day. Dave is a high school math teacher and absolutely loves his job — which I’m thankful for. And while he loves math, he really isn’t a total “math nerd” — which I’m also thankful for! Now that I think about it, there are some serious advantages to having a […]
