A More Detailed Look at our Important Info Binder

posted by Andrea | 05/2/2017 | 28 comments

Ever since I first shared our Important Information Binder, I have gotten so many questions, comments, and emails asking for more specific information about what exactly we keep in our binder — what documents, what information, etc.

At first, I didn’t want to answer these questions as I felt they were too personal — but then I realized that my main goal for sharing our binder was to help others get their information as organized as possible. So today, I’m sharing exactly what we keep in our important information binder.

May is often considered the start of “wedding season” here in West Michigan — so since May is almost here, I thought it might be fun to share a whole bunch of ideas to repurpose your wedding dress.

I’m also sharing some oldie-but-goodie pictures from Dave and my wedding… almost TEN years ago already!

Preserving Your Memories Just Got SO Much Easier!

posted by Andrea | 03/23/2016 | 22 comments

One of the Christmas gifts we gave my parents was an empty box… and you know what, they LOVED it! That’s because the empty box was a “Legacybox”… which they could fill with all their old photos, VHS tapes, and other memories to be digitally preserved.

If you would love to digitally preserve your old memories but you just don’t have the time, energy, or tools, Legacybox might be your answer too!

If you have been striving to get more organized, simplify your life, or increase your productivity… but for whatever reason you just never make any progress, I would highly encourage you to read through today’s (somewhat lengthy) post.

It might just shine some light onto a deeper reason for your disorganization.

When it comes to the clutter in our homes and lives, it’s often much easier to make excuse after excuse, listing all the reasons it might actually be best to KEEP our clutter than to actually make work of getting rid of those things we no longer need, use, want, or love.

Sound familiar? If you’ve been making excuses to keep your clutter, I hope that today’s post might be the “wake-up call” that motivates and encourages you to clear some of the clutter from your home and life!

There are many situations where someone else might need to step in and run your home, pay your bills, care for your children, or manage your life… and if your home is out of control and completely unorganized, there’s a good chance the people who are trying to help won’t be able to.

Today I’m sharing my own thoughts, as well as a poignant story from a reader, that will hopefully encourage and motivate you to be a little more diligent with your organizing efforts.

Why I Write Everything Down, and How I Do It

posted by Andrea | 06/4/2012 | 36 comments

So I know I’ve mentioned {several times already} that I write everything down… and I honestly do. I have my planner and a pad of paper with me where ever I go… and am constantly adding things to my lists {even in the middle of the night}.

Today, I’m sharing a few tips for both HOW and WHY I write everything down… and I’ve love to know if you have any tips or suggestions to add.

Do You Have Silent Time?

posted by Andrea | 05/1/2012 | 34 comments

I love quiet. I always have. Maybe it’s my opportunity to clear the clutter from my busy brain… but I feel like I need at least a small chunk of silence every single day.

I never listen to the radio, I don’t have any songs on my computer, I keep my phone on vibrate, and I rarely watch TV. However, after Nora was born, my silent time was gone… until I recently figured out a way to reclaim it again!

Emotional Clutter and My Grandma’s Sewing Treasures

posted by Andrea | 09/19/2011 | 22 comments

Today, I’m revisiting the issue of “sentimental” or “emotional” clutter and how great it is when you can actually USE something that is also very sentimental.
When my grandma died a few years ago, I was the only grandchild who knew how to sew — which meant I was “willed” her oldie-but goodie sewing machine…and ALL her sewing supplies.

See how I manage to actually use this otherwise “sentimental clutter”!

What I Did with My Wedding Dress!

Where’s your wedding dress? If you’re like most women, it’s carefully preserved, in a box, taking up loads of valuable storage space somewhere in your house. Or maybe it’s just hanging in your closet — still taking up equally as much storage space. Or maybe it’s in the attic, or the basement, or the garage, or… Wherever it is, there’s a pretty good chance you will never wear it again. You’re just storing it… because! A wedding dress is one […]

Keepsakes and Family Heirlooms

posted by Andrea | 03/15/2011 | 29 comments

Over the past few months, I’ve received several emails asking how I deal with keepsakes, family heirlooms, and emotional clutter. Well, to be perfectly honest — if I don’t want it, I don’t keep it. I’m not emotionally attached to anything so it’s really easy for me to toss {sometimes too easy!}. However, I know most people are not like me, so I thought I’d share a few tips…and a recent experience with one of my clients. Earlier this year, I worked […]
