posted by Andrea | 01/17/2013 | 7 comments

All week long, I’ve been talking about goals (I guess it’s about time since we’re already halfway through January!)

On Tuesday, I shared my new Ultra Simplistic approach to 2013; then yesterday, I shared the recap of my 2012 personal goals. Today, I’m looking back on the 12 business goals I made in 2012 — and I won’t lie, the results aren’t pretty!

As you probably already know, I’ve been working from home for several years now — and although there are definitely pros AND cons to my working arrangement, I honestly wouldn’t have it any other way.

That said, I’m really excited about this week’s eBook Bundle of the Week, because the books are all about successfully balancing work life with family life — which is something I struggle with daily!

This past month, I wrote several guest posts for other blogs — these post topics include my thoughts on “Being Committed vs. Being Over-Committed”, “Unplugging and Recharging”, “Creating a Successful Work-From-Home Routine”, and “Being Busy vs. Being Productive”

Today I’m sharing 3 simple strategies that have helped me boost 4th quarter sales… and I’d love to know if you have any other ideas.

5 Lessons From 5 Years in my Own Business

posted by Andrea | 08/9/2012 | 12 comments

Over my blogging break, I thought a lot about my business — things I love, things I don’t love, things I wish I did differently, and things I wish I would have realized early on.

If you’ve ever had even the tiniest dream of starting your own business, I’d encourage you to read my thoughts… however, I’ll warn you that I’ve included a healthy dose of reality!

How to Set-up and Utilize Your Gmail Signature

posted by Andrea | 06/6/2012 | 9 comments

As I’ve mentioned before, I use Gmail for all {10} of my email address. I love Gmail!

But since I use different signatures for each of my email address — and I’m not willing to manually type out a different signature for each email I send — I rely on Gmail’s super cool feature that allows me to set up different signature for each of email address…

Have You Benefited From This Blog?

Two years ago I got the “crazy” idea to start a blog about simple organized living… and after about 4 months of hashing out design details, SimpleOrganizedLiving.com was born in September of 2010.

I can hardly believe that over 2 million people have visited SimpleOrganizedLiving.com — and since you’re one of those people, I’d love to know how you’ve benefited from my blog!

Encouraging Clients To Pay

posted by Andrea | 05/5/2012 | 4 comments

One of the hardest parts of running a business (at least for me) is decided what I’m going to charge for my services… and then making sure I actually receive payment for those services. I don’t want to seem greedy or money-hungry — but at the same time, I’m not willing to work for free. If you’ve ever struggled with clients who won’t pay, here are a few ideas to help you collect those payments — and prevent future problems.

My Thoughts on Working For Free

posted by Andrea | 03/1/2012 | 56 comments

While, I’m certainly NOT against volunteering, charitable giving, bartering, or offering free/discounted services when the opportunity presents itself; I often have to remember that this is my job, and I can’t always work for free!

We would never expect a plumber, electrician, web-designer, or accountant to work for free; so why should I be expected to work for free just because I’m a stay-at-home-mom who “sits at my computer all day”? I’d love to hear your thoughts about working for free… especially if you are a work-from-home-person!

Organizing My Business Taxes with Outright.com

posted by Andrea | 02/27/2012 | 2 comments

About a month ago, I shared the REALLY simple way I organize all our tax documents. I still use that method for both our personal tax documents AND for my business tax documents… and so far I don’t have any reason to change or alter this system.

However, I’ve also been using Outright.com for the past two years and I’m thrilled with how easy it is to use. I can’t believe how much it has helped me to organize all my business tax information!

Running A Business and Taking Time Off

posted by Andrea | 11/14/2011 | 4 comments

Based on my past experiences, it’s quite difficult to take any amount of time off from my business {especially since I’m a one-woman operation} but it’s also 100% worth it every time I do. Even taking a few days off seems to give me a fresh perspective and even more energy to get back to work when I return home.

So as we enter another very busy holiday season — and as I enter a period of maternity leave — here are a few of my thoughts about how I plan to continue generating a decent income, keep my business running, and prevent possible issues {all while being as “hands-off” as possible}.

Run Your Business – Don’t Let it Run You!

posted by Andrea | 10/31/2011 | comment

One of the main reasons I wanted to start my own business is so that I could have some control over my schedule and be able take time off when I wanted to. Sometimes this works, other times it doesn’t, but if I’m not careful and if I don’t make a conscious effort to run MY business, over time, my business might just start to run my life instead! {can anyone relate!}

Working From Home: The Pros and Cons

posted by Andrea | 10/22/2011 | 13 comments

I often receive emails from readers {women in particular} who are interested in working from home. They ask me how I got started, if I have any good ideas for other stay-at-home jobs, and what the pros and cons of working at home are.

So while I’m not complaining one bit about my current working situation, I do think it might be beneficial to list some of the pros and cons I feel are part of running a business, working from home, and trying to juggle everything I do on a daily basis.

Yes, I Have a REAL Business Too

posted by Andrea | 07/15/2011 | 11 comments

When I started my organizing business nearly 4 years ago, I was extrememly apprehensive to answer the question, “So what do you do for a living?” I didn’t feel like I had a REAL business… but then I started making money and that put an end to my apprehension! However, when I started blogging {just about one year ago} I immediately felt that apprehension return. I had absolutely NO idea what being a “blogger” really meant, all I knew was that I […]

Create a Top 5 List

posted by Andrea | 04/15/2011 | 7 comments

I am a huge fan of list making! I love having a plan for the upcoming hours, days, weeks and even months…it makes me feel organized and productive! These lists give me a chance to relax, concentrate on the most important things, prevent lots of wasted time, and even allow for more free time when my list is complete. Although things don’t always work out as planned, and everything on the list isn’t always complete, it’s still nice to feel like […]

If you don’t use Gmail…let me try to convince you to switch over. And if you […]
