A Nice Change of Pace

posted by Andrea | 06/5/2017 | 10 comments

Although I love schedules, I thrive off regular routines, and I really enjoy finishing up a big project, there is just something to be said for tossing the to-do list every once in awhile! Don’t you think?

Today I’m sharing how our long Memorial Day weekend turned into just the right “change of pace” we needed to take a break from construction and focus on other things.

posted by Andrea | 06/2/2017 | 26 comments

I’m often asked for good money-saving tips, so I thought I’d share 2 of the simplest ways we save on kids clothing. They don’t involve scouring garage sales, using coupons, or reselling things at consignment stores — they are both much easier than all of that!

I know my ideas and tips won’t work for every family… but they’ve been working really well for us for the past 6 years!

However, aside from the month of June, I have a handful of other Favorite Things to share with you this month.

My Mini Maintenance Mode (week 1)

posted by Andrea | 05/31/2017 | 20 comments

Since I am regularly asked to share more about the organizing projects I do around my home, I thought it might be fun to start a series of posts dedicated to the various different projects I do to KEEP my home organized.

Most of these projects will be relatively small projects — so I’m starting today by sharing the Mini Maintenance Mode projects I tackled last week… at least the ones I remembered to write down!

How We Enjoy the Fruits of Our Frugalness

posted by Andrea | 05/30/2017 | 35 comments

I have always been good at making the most of our MONETARY resources. However, in many ways, this has caused me to squander my resources of time and energy. Also, we weren’t really enjoying any tangible benefits from all my frugal habits.

Today I’m sharing how our family has introduced a little more MODERATION into our savings and spending over the past 4-5 years, and how we are now regularly enjoying the “fruits” of our frugalness!

Happy Memorial Day + Spring Landscape Photos

posted by Andrea | 05/29/2017 | 14 comments

I usually don’t share many spring photos of our landscape because everything is still so small and uncolorful… but after planting a bunch of annuals 2 weeks ago, so many of you have asked for pictures!

Although the plants are all still very small and the annuals need to fill in A LOT, I figured it might be fun to share a handful of spring pictures — and then follow up with the same areas later this summer or fall to see how much bigger everything got!

Simon Says – Our Speech Therapy Experience

posted by Andrea | 05/26/2017 | 33 comments

As some of you may remember, Simon never talked (like literally never even said one word) until he was about 18-20 months old… and now we can’t get him to stop talking!

Today, I’m sharing more about our speech therapy experience, as well as some helpful tips and ideas for those of you with a “speechless” toddler in your life.

Why It’s OK Not To Have Constant Balance

posted by Andrea | 05/25/2017 | 16 comments

Most people think that in order to achieve a simple organized life, we also need to have complete and constant balance in every aspect of life… but in my opinion, constant balance is nearly impossible to achieve.

I’m sharing more thoughts about “balance” in today’s post!

Exactly 6 months ago, Nora got her ears pierced.

The “Good Old Days” Start Now!

posted by Andrea | 05/19/2017 | 19 comments

Despite what so many professionals, books, and news articles try to scare us to believe, I’m convinced today’s youth will grow up into fine adults who can fend for themselves, live on their own, and make a decent life for themselves.

And I have a feeling our kids will remember their childhood as “the good old days”, just like we remember ours!

Baby Steps and Big Picture Thinking

posted by Andrea | 05/18/2017 | 21 comments

As many of you know, I regularly encourage baby steps and small-but-steady forward progress… and although it might sound like an oxymoron, one of my favorite ways to make small but steady forward progress is what Dave and I call “big picture thinking”.

Over the past 11 years, Dave and I have met so many of our big picture goals — thanks in part to our baby steps approach!

Since summer is just around the corner (YAY!) and kids will be home for lunches again, I thought it might be good timing to share some of our favorite EASY at-home lunches.

Our lunch options are much more limited than our dinner options, but we still have enough variety ready to go each day that we don’t get bored or feel like we’re eating the same things day after day.

When A Tradition You Love Just Doesn’t Work

posted by Andrea | 05/16/2017 | 34 comments

I know it can be difficult to stop a long-standing tradition (especially a tradition you really enjoy) but speaking from experience, there are SO many times when our lives become stress-filled because we insist on doing something that no longer works for us… just because we’ve always done it that way.

If you feel overwhelmed or weighed down by certain traditions in your life, I hope this post shares a little encouragement and a new perspective.

Although our storage and organizational needs are always changing, we do have A LOT of outdoor gear, and today I’m sharing how we organize it all!
