There are few things I love more than the smell of bread baking in my oven… even if that bread came from a can in the refrigerated section of my grocery store!

The recipe I’m sharing today is OH SO simple, and will turn a can of biscuits or rolls into a fabulously delicious side dish, worthy of even your pickiest eaters…

Now that our new kitchen is actually usable, the thing I’m most excited about is baking bread — yeast bread, from scratch, in our oven!

I’m hoping to share a bunch of yummy bread recipes throughout the fall and winter months, but today, I’d love to know… What are your favorite yeast-bread recipes?

It’s no secret that I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE pumpkin. I’ll try pretty much any food made with pumpkin, and there’s a fairly good chance that I’ll like it.

However, since our kitchen isn’t ready for cooking or baking just yet, I figured I’d share a bunch of delicious pumpkin recipes from around the web… all in one nice, organized spot for you :)

The Best Apple Cake!

It’s honestly the BEST apple cake/bread I’ve ever made! It tasted absolutely delicious plain {for breakfast} and with a dollop of whipped cream {for dessert}! And even though I cut out some of the fat by replacing half the oil with my homemade applesauce, this cake was still SO moist and very dense with a grand total of FIVE chopped up apples!

I think this might be my new “go-to” recipe for apples… I only wish I didn’t have to wait until next Fall to have a great selection of fresh Michigan apples!

Make Your Own Beer Bread from Scratch

I remember the first time I attended a Tastefully Simple party and tasted their beer bread. It was so delicious that I knew I had to buy some. However, I quickly realized that a $5.49 price tag might not be worth it for one loaf of bread — especially at the rate we plowed through it!

So my frugal self decided to look for a beer bread recipe that I could make myself — and I’ve never looked back since!

Dave and I love a good, hot, crispy English Muffin for breakfast; however, I refuse to buy them from the store because they rarely go on sale, and the regular price can be over $3.50 for 6 lousy {preservative filled} English Muffins.

Thankfully, my mother-in-law shared her recipe for English Muffin Bread with me and for the last few years, it has been our much tastier, much healthier, and much cheaper alternative to store bought English Muffins.

Simple, Delicious Homemade Bread

I bet you never thought the words “simple” and “homemade bread” would go together in the same sentence. I didn’t think so either, until now… For the last couple of weeks, I’ve been making ALL our bread and rolls — from scratch. This was something I always wanted to do, but never thought I would have the time to actually do it. I’m mean, who has hours and hours to mix bread dough, let it rise, bake it, and then clean [...]

Apple Zucchini Bread

I LOVE zucchini bread! And if you’ve never had zucchini bread, let me assure you — it does NOT taste like zucchini! It basically tastes like cinnamon — and whatever other flavors you add to it. So, you can image how delicious Apple Zucchini Bread tastes, since it’s basically Apple Cinnamon Bread…YUM! I make different varieties of zucchini bread all year long, and I ALWAYS use zucchini from our garden! Yup, even in the middle of winter, I am able to [...]

Chocolate Chip Banana Muffins

Since we’re moving on Dec. 26, I won’t be doing much baking. However, I already have a freezer full of baked goods that should last us through every holiday party…and maybe even into the New Year {I can’t help it, I’m addicted to planning ahead and I have a vicious sweet tooth!} Of course I used my hand-dandy stackable cooking racks to save lots of space during my baking marathon!! And one of my all-time favorite recipes to make during the holidays [...]

Double Batch Cooking Tip + Cinnamon Bread

posted by Andrea | 11/2/2010 | 14 comments

It’s officially November, which means Thanksgiving, Christmas, and a bunch of other holiday festivities are just a few weeks away! It also means that you’ll probably end up baking…a lot! I love baking, but I don’t always have the time I need; so instead, I make double {or even triple} batches of our favorite foods. This saves me lots of time in the kitchen and assures we’ll always have something delicious in the freezer. The only problem is, I often double SOME [...]

Frosted Banana Bars

There are a handful of desserts I make every fall. Most of them include pumpkin, apples, cinnamon, nuts, or chocolate — but not this one. Frosted Banana Bars {or cake} is one of my favorite desserts; partially because it is REALLY easy to make, but also because we always have rotten bananas in the freezer — and this recipe makes a huge batch! Photo Credit: Sugar Cooking I always keep a few containers of rotten bananas in the freezer; I store [...]

Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Muffins

One of my favorite baking ingredients is pumpkin puree — especially in the fall. I’m a lover of all things pumpkin — pumpkin pie, pumpkin cheesecake, pumpkin bread, pumpkin dips. I eat them all! I love pumpkin puree so much that I even tried {with much success} to grow pumpkins in my garden a few years ago. It was great, except that they took over half our back yard!  I may have gotten a little carried away… I’ve worked hard to [...]

Cheesy Garlic Bread

posted by Andrea | 07/31/2010 | 7 comments

You’ve heard of high-maintenance families, high-profile families, and high-income families. Right? Well, we are what you might call a “high carb” family — we love all varieties of bread. Add a little garlic, some butter, a bunch of cheese, and throw it under the broiler…and we’re even happier. NOTE: If you’re on a low carb diet, turn away — don’t torture yourself! I’m  a huge fan of cheesy garlic bread, but store-bought garlic bread is so high in fat, preservatives {and price} that I [...]
