I love pasta, I love pizza, I love quick meals that I can put together in short notice, and I love meals that I can make ahead of time and put in the freezer.
If you share any of these “loves” with me — you will definitely want to add my Pizza Pasta recipe to your weekly meal planning rotation.
I can whip-up a double or triple batch of Pizza Pasta in less than 30 minutes, and I only have to wash one large pot and a few spoons when my cooking session is over. This is also my go-to meal when it comes to bringing meals to friends or relatives.
Oh, and if you have any picky eaters in your family, I can almost guarantee they’ll at least try this recipe!
Recipe for Pizza Pasta:
Ingredients for one 9″x13″ pan {I usually put it in smaller containers though}
- 1 16 oz. box dried pasta
- 1 egg
- 1/2 c. milk
- 1 26 oz. jar sauce (or you can make my favorite simple sauce recipe)
- Favorite pizza toppings (meat, veggies, seasonings, etc.)
- 1-2 c. Italian or Mozzarella cheese
- Additional meat/veggies for the top (optional)
Directions
- In a large stock pot, boil pasta according to the directions on the box
- Once the pasta is finished boiling, drain… but do NOT rinse
- Add egg and milk to the pasta (in the stock pot), stir until combined
- Mix in pasta sauce and any pizza toppings (sautéed peppers/onions, veggies, meats, spices, etc.)
- Dump pasta mixture into several GREASED baking dishes
- Top with Mozzarella cheese and then with additional meat (peperoni, ham, sausage, bacon)
- Cover and freeze — or bake at 350*F for 20 minutes or until cheese is melted.
- Eat and enjoy!
I always make a double batch of this recipe — sometimes a triple batch — and then after I assemble it, I put the extra pans in the freezer (before I bake them).
When I’m running short on time or want to bring a meal to a friend, I just grab one pan out of the freezer, defrost, and bake as directed above (it might take a bit longer than 20 minutes if your dish is still very cold or a little frozen).
Plus, as with almost ALL my recipes, you can easily customize it with different ingredients to fit your family’s taste buds — use your favorite type of pasta, make a special homemade sauce, mix in your favorite pizza toppings, etc. etc. You could even make this with gluten-free pasta, egg substitute, soy milk, fat-free cheese, or almost any other ingredients that fit with your diet.
You really can’t mess this one up!

I made this dish last night for dinner using the egg noodles I had on hand.
What a delicious dish!!! And… we ate one and have two in the freezer! Thanks for this post!

oh yes, I sometimes use egg noodles too and it’s delicious!

Are the measured ingredients for a single recipe? What size and how many baking dishes for a single recipe? Thanks!
Andrea says

Can you make this recipe with zoodles (zucchini noodles)?
Andrea says
Honestly, I have no idea — just give it a try. It certainly can’t hurt!

Made some to eat and some to freeze. We added black olives at the table and that really made this dish. Husband said he’d like more meat, tomorrow we’ll cook up some chicken on the side to add protein. Excellent dish, quick to make and it’ll be handy to pull it out of the freezer one day when we’re in a rush.
Thank you for the recipe! ๐

This is SO delicious! We make our own pizzas every Friday, so for this recipe I used our favorite pizza sauce instead of pasta sauce. Awesome :). Also, since the kids like different toppings than the grown-ups, I could make one for them, one for us. Thanks so much!

I made 2 BIG PANS of this for my husband so far, and he LOVES IT! I cooked hamburger meat with mine the 1st time I made it, but it was a little bland. So the 2nd time I made it, I seasoned it and added a layer of cheese in the middle, as well as on top. It was delicious! Then I cooked garlic bread with it! We really made it a family dinner. I LOVE this recipe and it will continue to be a hit with my husband!

this looks like a great idea; i’d love to remember it for later… but it won’t let me pin any images of the recipe, which would link back to this post. do you know why?

I have made this recipe as well. I make my own sauce and buy local cheese and pepperoni, it’s so yummy! Sometimes I switch out other meats or veggies.

Is the egg absolutely necessary. Will it not work without it?

I had the same question… I think it’s to help it bind together. I’d leave it out, don’t really care if it crumbles when I’m serving it ๐

This looks really good. I have all of the ingredients on hand. I will be making this for supper this week.

Ohhhh pizza pasta! I love this stuff… A friend brought it over after I had baby #3 and we were instantly in love!
We have a tiny tweak that makes a difference – instead of regular pasta like penne, we use egg noodles! They are a bit more tender and toothsome – at least in our family’s opinion ๐

This looks so simple and yummy! Our go-to weeknight meals are nothing fancy – we have pasta with garlic bread and salad quite often because it is simple, cheap, and everyone loves it! We also have sandwiches a lot – we pair them with soup in the winter and with fresh fruit or veggies in the summer.
Erin says
Ooh, this brings back childhood memories. Mom used to make pizza hotdish all the time! Essentially the same recipe, but with her homemade sauce. YUM!

I make something like this on a regular basis and it’s always a hit. Sometimes I’ll add in a bit of sour cream to add some tangy creaminess or some cottage cheese if I have it on hand. This is always popular at cross country team dinners….fills ’em up!

What a timely recipe! This will work very well with some freezer cooking I am doing this week. Looks delicious…and the kind of recipe my family will enjoy!

This looks like a great idea and something that will help me feed teenagers this summer. I was going to pin it to my summertime board on Pinterest but it won’t allow me to use the images from the post, do you have it set that way intentionally? ๐
Andrea says
Tammy, I just “pinned” it with no issues. I used the “pin” button at the bottom of the post… not sure why it wouldn’t work for you??
Tammy Skipper (@Tammy_Skipper) says
oh thanks! I was trying to pin using the bookmarklet tool from Pinterest, it worked with the plugin tool ๐
