UPDATE: This giveaway is now closed.
Even as a very small child, some of my favorite play-time activities were playing store {I was the cashier} and writing numbers in my “bank book” {see picture below}.
When I was six, my parents helped me open my first savings account and then make small deposits on a regular basis. You can probably imagine how excited I was to balance a REAL bank register after each deposit!
I opened a checking account when I was 18, and was extremely hesitant to spend even one penny more than I absolutely had to! I used coupons to buy groceries all through college, and worked as many hours as I could to quickly pay off my student loans.
Now that I’m “all grown up” I’m still frugal, I still use coupons, I still don’t spend money if I don’t have to, and I still balance my bank register after every transaction {yes, I do online banking too!}
Basically, I’ve been frugal for as long as I can remember — thanks in large parts to my parents who have always encouraged me and my sisters to save, save, save!
Because of my love for frugal living, I am simply ecstatic about today’s giveaway — The Money Saving Mom’s Budget. It’s a brand new book written by one of my blogging friends, Crystal Paine of MoneySavingMom.com.
Crystal’s book is not only packed FULL of hundreds of tips and tricks to save more, spend less, and pay off debt; it also contains a wealth of information on how to simplify and organize your entire life… which I’m all in favor of 🙂
Plus the entire book is written from a “normal” person’s perspective on finances; so you won’t have to weed through financial jargon or constantly wonder if you’re understanding it correctly.
As I was reading her book, I kept thinking “I could have written this” because I honestly agree with pretty much everything she says. You can read more about her book here, but then come back and enter to win one of 5 copies!
The Giveaway:
Today, five lucky readers will win a copy of Crystal’s new book, The Money Saving Mom’s Budget!
How to Enter:

Hi Would love to win a copy of this book. To save money I use coupons and go to several stores for the deals. I am also no longer a slave to certain brands as I was in the past now if I can get a good deal on a different brand that’s what I buy. Especially for staples like laundry detergent & toothpaste, shampoo, ect. I also never used to pay much attention to the drugstore ads, rarely went there. now I pursue carefully and match coupons.

I’m trying to save money this year by keeping a food budget–spending a certain amount per pay period on groceries, using coupons as much as possible, eating (instead of wasting) leftovers, and strictly limiting how much we eat out.
Mandie says
We’re really strict with our budget numbers right now- no cheating on our envelope system and socking the savings away. We’re so close to our goal~ a new-to-us car that will hold all 7 of us PLUS our groceries!

i’m trying to save more and spend less this year by using more coupons, and not buying anything unless we absolutely have to have it.
tammy328 says

I am approaching 2012 as a new year and watching all expenses. We drastically overspent on food and I am trying to minimize that amount in addition to watching all other spending to NEEDS.

My husband and I are working hard this year to spend less and save more. We cut eating out to once a week and anything we would like to buy, that is not necessary at the time, we are writing down in a notebook to evaluate for a couple weeks! “Yay!” to new goals this year. ๐

I have quit smoking and believe me that is great! Not as hard as I thought it would be, and happy to see my savings! Also I am finally going to sit my children down and explain finances and get their help keeping on track. I raised them alone and thought it was alwaysy duty to keep anything bad from them. Time to come clean and start fresh this year. Please pray I have the strength to be totally honest.

I have been reading MSM’s blogs for quite some time now and I have “liked”you, too now.
My goals for this year are to use coupons for every grocery trip & only pay for groceries in cash. I have cancelled my water deliveries ($35/mo) & talked to my cell company to lower our bill (another $40/mo saved!!!). In addition, my husband, my teenage daughter & myself have $20 at the beginning of each week. This is for lunches, snacks, whatever….This is our “spend on whatever” money & I encourage them (and myself) to save some at the end of each week for their “stash of cash”. So far I have spent only 1/2 each week & I am SO excited to start being more frugal & trying to get our grocery spending down between $80-$100/week. Hard on a family of 6 PLUS a daycare, but I can already see that it’s possible!!
