I remember the first time I attended a Tastefully Simple party and tried their beer bread. It was so delicious that I knew I had to buy some. However, I quickly realized that a $5.49 price tag might not be worth it for one loaf of bread — especially at the rate we plowed through it!
So my frugal self decided to look for a beer bread recipe that I could make myself — and I’ve never looked back since!
Have you ever tried beer bread?
If you’ve never tried beer bread — you absolutely MUST. And promise me you will use this recipe… OK?
If you have tried beer bread from a mix, then please give this recipe a try before you spend another $5.49.
You won’t believe how simple this is…
Did you know that you can make your own beer bread with just 3 ingredients? And you don’t even need beer!
Recipe for 1 Loaf of Beer Bread:
Ingredients:
- 3 c. Self-Rising flour {Don’t have Self-Rising flour? You can make your own — thanks for the tip Anne! }
- 3 T. sugar
- 1 12oz. can of any carbonated beverage or beer {Ginger Ale, Diet Coke, Sprite, and 7Up all work great, but others probably would too}
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 350*F
- Mix flour and sugar in a medium bowl
- Pour carbonated beverage into the bowl and quickly mix with a spoon until a sticky dough forms
- Scrape dough into a greased bread pan, and bake for 45-55 minutes or until center is done
This bread is excellent sliced with meat and cheese for lunch or pulled into chunks and served with your favorite dip as an appetizer.
Give it as a gift or party favor!
Simply mix the flour and sugar in a 1 quart canning jar or zip-top bag, decorate it with ribbon, construction paper, fabric, etc. Then pair it with a bottle of fancy beer and baking instructions. You’ll be the hit of the party!

Hi Andrea, I made this bread today, baked it in a glass loaf pan, and it turned out beautifully. Lightly browned, crispy crust, and tasty. Used Busch beer. Thank you. Patsy
Andrea says
yay — I love baking in glass! glad it turned out for you. Nothing like the smell of fresh bread!
CHERIE says
Can you make this in a crockpot?
Andrea says
I’ve never tried it — but the worst thing that could happen would be that your bread wouldn’t turn out 🙂

When you say 3 T. Of suegra is table or teaspoon of sugar?
Magali says

Andrea says

My question always is when making breads -What size loaf pan? I have 4 different sizes and am never sure which one is the standard size when it isn’t specified.

I made this today. Wow, was it good! Made a second one for my friend and her family. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the post! It looks so easy and I love the lower cost! Have you ever run across a copy cat recipe for Nana’s Apple Cake? Love that one too! (but not the price! Lol)

What is the dip that you served along side of the beer bread the other day at our staff party?
Andrea says
It was just a simple spinach dip. You could use a dried mix and add mayo/sour cream — or I usually use this recipe but don’t include the water chestnuts.

Oh, yum! Can’t wait to try this. I always loved Tastefully Simple, but it’s not in our budget these days. Those parties are too tempting, it should be called Tastefully Sinful! (with apologies to my friend Gail the TS Consultant)
I don’t have self-rising flour in the house, so I went here for a recipe to make my own:

Tastefully Simple’s website tastefullysimple.com also has suggestions for add-ins to make cheesy bread, garlic bread, etc.

Thanks for that helpful link Anne! I’m going to add it to the post for other readers who might not have self-rising flour in their pantry. I always have it in the house for making this bread, so I never thought to make my own!!
