UPDATE: This giveaway is now closed.
I’m really excited about today’s giveaway — partially because it’s a great book that totally fits with my quest for simple, organized living… but also because I know BOTH of the authors!
I’ve worked closely with Mandi from Life… Your Way and Tara from Deal Seeking Mom for the past 2 years and can attest that they are both amazing moms, wives, business women, bloggers… and just really fun ladies!
So, of course, I knew their first book, All in Good Time: When to Save, Stock Up, and Scheduled Everything for Your Home — would be a fantastic read. Between Mandi’s organizational and time management skills and Tara’s uncanny ability to find every deal, there is something for everyone inside the cover of their book.
Since we are planning to renovate our kitchen this summer, the text on the front cover “Remodel Your Kitchen” immediately caught my attention. After a quick glance through the table of contents, I flipped to page 19 (where the remodeling advice starts) and was pleasantly surprised to find they had included MY tips and tricks for remodeling on a budget!!
I almost forgot that they had asked me for a few tips way back when they were in the writing process… so cool!
I also love that this book is such a quick read — like a “how-to” manual for simple living! Last week (on our Spring Break Staycation) I shared that I started reading this book — and I actually finished it that afternoon. It’s the type of book that you can just hop around to different chapters based on what information you are looking for, and there’s always something new you can pick up.
So if you’ve ever wondered when the best time to “save, stock up, and schedule” anything in your home/life, I’d highly recommend reading this book. It’s available at major bookstores and, of course, at Amazon.com… but you might want to wait to see if you win my giveaway first!

I like to save by using coupons. I like to check out Craigslist and Freecyle for gently used items. I find it helpful to have a meal plan for the week, it helps me to save money and only buy what I need.
Jennifer says
Once I have two or three of something extra I don’t stockpile that item anymore unless the deal is AMAZING!
Tiffany @ No Ordinary Homestead says
Go shopping on Wednesdays — it’s always the slowest shopping day of the week.
And if you need to buy something from a large department store chain, always try to buy when a sale is on. Sometimes you can even get the prices the night before the sale starts when they are changing signs. If it’s marked on sale already, the have to honor the price. (I worked retail in college!)
Go grocery shopping as few times a month as possible. The impulse buys will kill you. And only clip coupons for products you’d usually buy — otherwise you’re just wasting your time. ๐

As a Nana to twin grandsons, I like to help by making their baby food. It takes buying fresh food (when it’son sale is best!), cook, puree, label & freeze in reusable, appropiate sized containers, thaw as needed & have healthy homemade baby food at a fraction of the cost. Do the same with juice. Go ahead & dilute as needed, freeze in ice cube trays & store in freezer bags.

I have been shopping sales and using coupons and stocking up my pantry/fridge/freezer when prices are low for about 6 months now. One way it has changed my life is that I now plan meals based heavily from foods we have already have at home as a result of my stocking up. Previously I use to first pick a recipe before a shopping trip, but doing so made me spend money foolishly because I then had to buy ingredients whatever the price happened to be.
Bonnie says
Shopping once a month for household and groceries items and then once every two weeks for milk and fresh fruits and veggies.

My tip for saving money is to use coupons on anything possible and to buy things that are on sale…while also saying “no” to things you don’t need.

I already like you on FB.

I like making less trips. That way, I really have to plan for what we need and I have less opportunities to be tempting to buy snacks.
But, my number 1 saver is to NEVER grocery shop hungry!
Danielle says
I try to run all my errands at one time.

Best tip to save… if you find something you want, like a new item of clothing, but it’s out of your budget, wait until it goes on sale. The store will almost undoubtedly have some type of sale in the near future. I never buy anything at full price.
Suzanne says
One stock up tip I have is to watch for sales and coupons, and buy as many of a product I use frequently, as I have space for, during the sale and with the coupons I have. Lately, I’ve been saving around 49% on my grocery bills too!
Barb says
This book sounds fantastic!! I enjoy finding deals and to save money, it’s part of my life!
Cathy says
I’m not sure if this goes along with the question you’re asking. We have signed up for Peak time of day for electric usage, and so because I”m a stay at home Grandma I try to do all of our laundry, cooking (major appliance usage) during the day to save on electricity. It really not that hard once you get used to it.

I like SOL on Facebook already (that’s where I saw the link to this post first).

I save on meat by buying in bulk from the local meat market when they have huge sales. Last time I got 20 pounds of boneless skinless chicken breast for $1.25 per pound!

I make my baby’s pureed food for him! When I do I make tons of it so I only have to do it every couple of months, plus I know exactly what’s going into his tiny little tummy, and I get it done during nap time. That counts as saving and stocking up, right? ๐

I want to be more organized and learn to live a more simple but well planned life. I would love to devour this book!!!

I buy meat when it’s on sale in bigger quantities and then freeze in smaller portions for my family. I also like to keep lots of basics on hand…like canned things, that way I’m not running out to buy just one item.
Sarah says
A tip is to set a price you are willing to pay for something and then when it hits that price, stock up at that point.
Abigail says
I plan my meals every week to keep down on the grocery bill so we are only buying what we need. Not only does it save but it keeps us healthy by not buying junk food. I also use a great app on my phone to keep track of what we have in our pantry and what is getting low so if we notice a great sale we can snap it up and save. (It also keeps me from buying doubles : D)

I do all of my errands at the same time, starting with the furthest away from home and working my way back. I try to do them during the week so my weekends are free.

I like to use double coupons to stock up on basic needs. Then when I am out ,I have the
back up i need stored in the basement. Shop from the basement no need to go out. Saves
gas, which we all know is quite expensive right now.
Jennifer says
I always look on craigslist for appliances and furniture. We got a 4 month old refrigerator for $500 less than a new one, because someone was changing appliance colors in their kitchen and wanted to get it out of their house!
Amy says
Playing the drugstore game!
Robin says
I have a list of all the non-food comsumables I use in the house (toiletry items, paper goods etc.) and I use the list to check my inventory and also determine what I need to buy. This keeps my purchases focused on items I really use, not every item that is a good deal.

My tip for saving is to plan my shopping trip and use coupons. (Probably not very original but it does help.) I have been trying hard to make lists and use my day planner, too. =)

I like to save on produce by buying it when it’s at it’s lowest cost, chopping it all up, and freezing it in 1 cup portions.
