Well it wasn’t necessarily a birthday gift – it was my birthday activity, you could say. I was turning 24, none of my friends could go out with me, so I decided I would make my own adventure. My best friend lived about 2 hours away in Canada and she and her husband had just come back from a 4 month backpacking trip across 27 countries. So we planned to meet in the middle in Detroit at one of my favorite spots (New Parthenon), not only did she show up but she brought her husband and her sister and we had a great time over a delicious meal, she told the waiter it was my birthday and they brought this amazing dessert out and they all sang in Greek – it was so fun. We headed to our vehicles parked under the Ren Cen and there was a bagpiper practicing (Bagpipes are my favorite); it was like he was playing just for me – but he wasn’t. Then we took the tunnel to Windsor and had coffee at a Tim Hortons and we looked at all their pictures from their trip and they had brought me some souvenirs. It was one of my most favorite birthdays ever.

My 5th birthday gave me my first pet – a hamster that I named “Hampsy” (creative and original I know). But it signified the beginning of my live affair with animals. I would live to win your favorite things because many of them are also MY favorite things!

My favorite birthday present was when I was 20. My best friend gave me a homemade “Acme Do-It-Yourself Surprise Party Kit”. In a large box so labeled, birthdays hats, streamers, noise makers, plates, glasses, napkins and table cloth, the inspiration piece a wind up Wile E. Coyote, a decorated birthday cookie since it had to travel, there was a small “real” gift, but I don’t remember what it was. The real gift was the memories of good friends having a “do-it-yourself surprise party” fit for a 5-year-old.

My favorite Birthday gift was on my 24th Birthday…it was 1 week before my wedding & my soon to be hubby took me out for a very nice dinner at my fav summer time dinner spot, right on the lake in the adirondacks of upstate NY (about an hour from our home) It was SO nice to spend some relaxing time with him before all the wedding week craziness set in. And to top it off, there was a wedding there that day & was being set up as we arrived ๐ It was so cool to watch the activity & know that my special day was only a week away!!

One of my favorite b-day gifts is what I got this year(early)…a new camera. It’s not state of the art, nor hundreds of dollars. But, boy does it take much better pics than our old one.
Also, my birthday is tomorrow too! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

My favorite birthday gift… I’d have to say my son was about 10 years old and he went to one of my friends (I’m divorced) and asked for her help in planning a big surprise party for me. I think it was my 30th birthday.
She offered to babysit the boys while I went to work and then have me over for dinner after. I got off work and went straight to her house. I was so exhausted I started falling asleep on her couch and she gently tried getting me to go home, but I was too tired. Other friends started dropping by and were surprised to see me there, but I was too tired to catch on until I had gone to use the bathroom and one friend arrived, talking about how he thought he was late and had missed the big “Surprise!” and was glad to see I wasn’t there yet.
How funny it was when I walked out of the bathroom surprised at over hearing him and learning I had crashed my own party by arriving too early!
The cake was home made and gorgeous (she used to do wedding cakes) and it was so incredibly sweet of my 10 year old to put the ideas and guest list together and my friend, Kelly, for backing him up and helping him to make it happen.
