My daughter surprised me with a 50th birthday party with all my friends and family. One person has since passed away with cancer and another has Alzheimer’s, so I was great to be able to have them there. We all had a great time.

My favorite birthday present was from my Mom & Dad my senior year of high school. It was a ’68 Pontiac LeMans that my dad had rebuilt the engine (that was from my brothers old car) and my dad had it painted. It was beautiful and I loved that car! As a teenager, it was awesome to have a car (that was built like a tank!), but mostly because my dad had put it together for me.

In lieu of gifts last year, I asked friends to bring a donation and I compiled them and added to the donations to a local woman’s shelter. It was better than all of the past gifts I received put together (and I am OLDER than 27!!!)

Let me see when I turned 27 I had an 16 month old and was pregnant with the second one. I more than likely wanted a day off because I believe that is also when my husband worked 7 days a week. Right now I am 47 so I just like dinner with the family. However I always like to win free stuff. Happy Birthday

My best birthday gift was received for my 8th birthday. It was a copy of the book, The Black Stallion, given to me by my brother who was 12 years my senior. I kept that book until I shared it with my sons. It is now on my grandson’s bookshelf.

I will turn 52 in 8 days, so my birthday is on my mind right now. I find a way each year about two weeks ahead to remind my kids that it’s coming. My favorite birthday will hopefully be this one to come. But I have a tough contender in memory. When I turned 51 almost a year ago, my son wrote a poem for me which brings amazement and tears of joy to my eyes each time I read it. Here it is:
“To my amazing mom: You are my anchor, you tie me to this earth, you are my backbone, and have been since birth. The love I feel is all too real to simply put onto paper, when things get rough and times get tough you are my gleaming savior. God is love and so are you I cannot express enough, the joy and love we both will know united in heaven above, but before those white gates and our sealing of fates there is one thing that you should know. You give your love and so you are loved with my brain and my heart and my soul.”

My favorite birthday gift was from my mother. My birthday is Dec 4. The first year I was married I realized that I did not have any ornaments for my tree. My mother bought and made ornaments for my birthday. My tree was beautiful, and the ornaments were a very memorable gift from my mom. My mom is gone now, but that is just one of many things she left for me to remember her at Christmas.
