We’ve all heard the saying, “time is money” and to a certain degree, that’s true.
However, today I want to challenge you by saying that time is more important than money.
Why?
Because you can always find ways cut your expenses and make more money but you can never get time back…NEVER.
Once you waste time on unimportant things, you can never get it back.
I recently heard a story about a man who gave his son two jars, one empty and one filled with marbles.
The jar had enough marbles for each week left in the son’s life (assuming a man’s average age). The father told his son to move one marble into the empty jar every Saturday. The marbles symbolized the days and weeks he could never get back.
Yes, this is just a silly story, but it does make a good point.
Since I’m practical, I like to think of it in terms of how it relates to my life.
Many of you know that I’m very conscious about how I spend my time and my money; I value both resources.
One analogy I like to use when helping my clients to to realize the value of their resources is to determine what their time is actually worth.
For example: take your weekly salary and divide it by the number of hours you work each week. That’s your HOURLY rate.
Let’s just hypothetically say that rate is $25.00 per hour.
Now, when you spend an hour surfing the internet, watching TV, or text messaging friends when you could be doing something productive — visualize yourself throwing that money in the trash!
Over the course of a year, wasting one hour a day (at $25.00/hour) would be the same as throwing $9,000.00 away!
If you’re frugal like me, it’ll shock you and make you realize the value of your time!
Take some time this week to decide how you want to spend your time…let me know what you decided!
