I know I’m bias, but I am willing to bet that West Michigan is one of the prettiest places to live in the fall. The colors are absolutely beautiful right now…and the sun just continues to shine!
It’s still warm enough to open the windows for a few hours in the afternoon {which is not normal for October} and it’s cool enough to have the oven on all day. So I’ve been baking up a storm and stocking my freezer — it’s nearly full!
Since I love trying new foods I’m always searching the web for simple recipes with simple ingredients that look delicious. I usually have no trouble finding a whole bunch!
Want to know what I came up with this week?
Here are just a FEW of my favorite fall foods from around the blogosphere…
1. Octoberbark — A Farmgirl’s Dabbles
I’ve made many fun fall desserts and treat, but Octoberbark is a new one for me. I can tell from the picture alone, that this fall treat will be a hit at our house.

2. Sourdough Starter — Food For My Family
The cooler weather of fall puts me in the mood for homemade bread; warm from the oven…MY oven.
I love all kinds of bread but sourdough is certainly my favorite. Unfortunately, I’ve never made sourdough from scratch because I thought it would be too difficult. While it does take a bit of time, I found a great recipe/tutorial over at Food For My Family.

3. Cast Iron Skillet Potatoes — Dine & Dish
Cooking anything in a cast iron skillet makes me think fall; but these herbed potatoes simply say “fall is here”!

4. Apple Butter — from me!
Apples are my all-time favorite food {year round}. I love apple everything — but I especially love the rich taste of homemade apple butter. Honestly, can you get more “fall” than this?
5. Pumpkin Cookies — Kitchen Stewardship
What would fall cooking be without something pumpkin? I’m a huge fan of traditional pumpkin pie, but when I came across these pumpkin cookies over at Kitchen Stewardship, I just had to print the recipe.
The thing I love about this recipe is that there is a traditional version {for people like my husband who can’t gain weight if they try} AND a healthier version {for everyone else!}

These fabulous fall foods should be enough to keep you busy for awhile — or at least make you hungry!
This weekend I’m making a big lasagna dinner with Cheesy Garlic Bread, salad, and Bumbleberry Pie for dessert.

Please keep us posed on the sourdough starter. Earlier this year, we tried to make it. My kids named it “Odie”. I was sad it died (we did something wrong apparently) but they were getting so attached to feeding Odie I was worried about the day we baked and ate him, so maybe it was a bread-blessing.

Thanks so much for featuring my starter! I need to share some of the fantastic recipes we’ve made with it now.
I adore apple butter. I need to get busy and make my own, something I still have yet to do this year. Those pictures are drool-worthy.

I’ve never made apple butter, and those pictures are luring me right now. I just stocked up on my favorite Haralsons and will give this recipe a try. Thanks for the recipe, and for linking to my Octoberbark post. Have a great weekend!
