They always say that food is the way to a man’s heart — but as a women, I LOVE getting food gifts! It means I don’t have to make it myself, and I don’t have to figure out a place to store one more gift that I don’t really need!
So why not skip the busy stores, skip the clutter, skip the over-priced gadgets, and make {or buy} food gifts for everyone on your list this year.
Head on over to the AboutOne blog to drool over my favorite clutter-free food gifts!
Oh, and you don’t have to reserve food gifts for the holidays. Food also makes great gifts for birthdays, anniversaries, college “exam baskets”, anyone with an illness, teacher appreciation, and baby gifts… ahem!

My sisters new boyfriend sent the family a large $200 Omaha steak gift package for the holidays. He was not able to come to our home for the holidays. My parents were offended. They said “what does he think we can’t afford to buy our groceries?” They had actually never met him so it made a bad first impression on them.
For some reason Omaha steaks seem different then baked goods or a bottle of wine.
It’s boxes of raw meats that we have to prepare as opposed to a cheesecake or cookies that I can share that day with everyone.
I didnt think my parents should have been offended. But there just seems like there are more approriate gifts.

Last year, I was at a total loss on what to give to my sister and brother-in-law for Christmas. One morning we were watching the Today Show (I think) and they had some suggestions for gifts. One of them was Omaha Steaks where you could get a combo pack of steaks, chicken, pork chops, baked potatoes and some sort of dessert for a super (and I mean really super) price. I thought it was a great idea so I bought one for us and one for our sister/brother in laws. I packaged it in a basket with some other small items and wrapped it up. They were offended that we chose to give them that for their gift and I was left looking like an idiot. We won’t be doing that for them this year.. but I wouldn’t hesitate to give it to some others, I tihnk. By the way, each item in the bundle was delicious and we’d buy it again if they had another offer as good.
On another note, we have given lasagne and a couple of other casseroles for new mom gift

What! I would absolutely LOVE to get a food gift from Omaha Steaks {and so would my husband}. That seems crazy that they would be offended… what a great clutter-free gift that anyone {except vegetarians} could use!!

They never said thanks or anything – just put it aside and went on to other things. At first I was offended and hurt but realize that they see ‘gifts’ differently than I do.
We’re back to the same question for this holiday… What to get S and K…. she likes to go to concerts, so maybe I’ll just go safe and get a gift card for Ticketmaster. Sigh, so not creative….

I like your “ahem”. Thats so me. Have a great day Andrea! And my only pregnancy advice is- if you can, ask for extra spray (so you can take home) Its called derma or dermo something……… =) It helps soothe or it numbs..whatever it does, it feels, refreshing.

speaking as an “almost” new mom {who is NOT a picky eater} I would love any food gifts; from full meals to snacks and goodies for school lunches. It all helps out and is way more useful than another pink onesie!!
I do always try to package my food in disposable containers so the person doesn’t have to worry about washing it and getting it back to the appropriate owner…but that’s just my preference.
