That’s right friends… our babe is already 5 months old!
I feel like I’ve been writing these monthly updates on a WEEKLY basis, but maybe that’s just because I’ve been trying so hard to take lots and lots of pictures throughout the month!
Isn’t she cute — and SOOOO full of energy!
Nora’s milestone this month:
Nora is growing and learning new things every day — and I’m doing my best to capture them all on camera. However, I’m getting a bit “lazy” and just uploading the photos right from my phone to my blog — without editing them at all. So, many of the photos are a bit blurry because Nora never stops moving. Also, many of the photos are a little dark because they were taken in the evening… good thing she looks so cute in her PJ’s!

1. She grabs her feet.
It’s become quite a challenge to change her diaper because she’s always grabbing her feet. So I try to hold her legs down with one hand, wipe with the other, and somehow manage to quickly shove the fresh diaper underneath. Then I have to take her feet away from her again so I can velcro the diaper in the front.
I also had to get different socks that were tighter around the ankels because otherwise she pulls her socks off every chance she gets!
2. She grabs EVERYTHING!
The girl grabs everything — paper, rattles, kitchen utensils, toys, blankets, her pipe, food from our plates, cups filled with liquid, my phone, hair and jewelry 🙂 — so yeah, we’re trying to be more careful with what we leave in her arm’s reach!

3. She can almost sit up 🙂
Of course, stubborn Nora wants to be able to sit up “by herself” but she can’t do it quite yet. She can kind of sit up with the Boppy pillow (one of my favorite pieces of baby gear) but get’s antsy after a while and then lays down again.
Of course, she can sit perfectly fine with pillows wedged on either side — and she LOVES sitting on our bed, looking at our chandelier!
4. She “crawls” backward.
The other day, I was in my office working and she was happily playing on her mat (up there by the spatula). When I went to check on her, she was no longer on her mat, and had “crawled” backwards almost 5 feet! Of course, her new thing is to scoot around backwards!
5. She’s jumping!
Nora moves constantly — which is one of the reasons I can’t fathom how she goes all day with only a couple 15 minute naps {lots of energy like her mama I guess}. Thankfully, we found a Johnny Jumper for $5 on Craigslist and just borrowed an ExerSaucer from a friend!
6. She’s more content to just lay around.
I can’t even tell you how thankful I am for this! Even though we’re still working on the whole napping thing, she is often content to watch Baby Einstein or even just lay on her play mat for 20 minutes at a time! Hallelujah!
And yes, she likes to awkwardly lay on her stomach on our laps!
I’d be lying if I said it was easy; but there is a dim light at the end of the tunnel. After 5 months, we’re slowly starting to figure our “puzzle” baby out…
Of course, she couldn’t just give us a break and be an easy puzzle. No, she’s one of those enormous 3D puzzles with the tiny pieces that requires 20 different tries before you find the one that works.
Give us a few more months… we’ll figure her out!

I loved this post- it was almost like I was reading about my baby boy. He’s nearly 5 months old and is doing everything just like Nora- growing up so fast!

Nora is so cute! I love her eyes. It sounds like you’re hitting your stride as a mom. 🙂 Although, just when you start to really feel like you have her figured out, she’ll start teething and have fevers or runny noses and crabbiness and you won’t know why and feel like you’re back at square one. 🙂

Trust me, just when you have one stage figured out she’ll be in the next one. With kids nothing stays the same. As for knowing what to expect when you have another, don’t bet on it, they’re never the same. And God knows what he’s doing, he blesses you with the easiest one first! Or nobody would want another one right?

She is adorable and has beautiful eyes as well. I have 2 kids (James 8 and Sienna 6) and let me tell you when the first one comes along your life does change….I’m an organized person and you feel like if you just fit everything in according to your schedule you’ll be right. But as you are discovering babies don’t do things according to your schedule. They do them when they want today and tomorrow is a different story. We love our kids, wouldn’t change anything for the world but going from 2 people to 3 is a complete shock to the system. Now your life is in baby mode, family mode you have made all those big changes adapting to sleep routines (or lack thereof whatever the case may be). You can feel overwhelmed talking about another child knowing how much work is involved 24/7 with your 1st baby. Let me assure you, your life has changed and you are now doing the child thing so when baby no 2 comes along they just fit right in. The biggest shock is being independent doing whatever and whenever suits you in the “couple” stages to all that changing. When the next one comes along because you have gone through all these stages and know what to expect it seems to flow a lot easier. She’ll be into everything in 6 months time so enjoy the slow crawling backwards. It’s all beautiful. Hard work but all beautiful. Regards Kathy A, Brisbane, Australia

Ann beat me to it. Yep, just wait til she’s crawling. Then walking. You will always be on the run and there will be all sorts of new things for you to figure out. You’ve got your hands full. In a good way! Those eyes are insanely gorgeous.

I’m following your tales with your girl avidly. Our son is just a little over 11 weeks old and from your example I can see that some things will certainly improve. 🙂

My son’s socks were constantly slipping off his feet but with these little things, they stay on and they make it more difficult to pull the socks off. They’re rather expensive, but very handy. Of course, a crafty person can make these on their own. They’re really nothing more but a wide elastic band (I guess about 2″) sewed into a roll and with a cut at half length where the baby’s heel goes.

She is beautiful! And God was good to give a high energy baby to a high energy mom…You were meant to be together…of course!

Our kids loved their Johnny Jump Ups. I played lively music while they bounced to the beat. Now whenever I hear those kiddy songs, I get a really vivid picture of them in the jump up. Lots of fun! I think this is the age where they are loads of fun. Enjoy!
