UPDATE: This giveaway is now closed.
I’m really excited about today’s giveaway — partially because it’s a great book that totally fits with my quest for simple, organized living… but also because I know BOTH of the authors!
I’ve worked closely with Mandi from Life… Your Way and Tara from Deal Seeking Mom for the past 2 years and can attest that they are both amazing moms, wives, business women, bloggers… and just really fun ladies!
So, of course, I knew their first book, All in Good Time: When to Save, Stock Up, and Scheduled Everything for Your Home — would be a fantastic read. Between Mandi’s organizational and time management skills and Tara’s uncanny ability to find every deal, there is something for everyone inside the cover of their book.
Since we are planning to renovate our kitchen this summer, the text on the front cover “Remodel Your Kitchen” immediately caught my attention. After a quick glance through the table of contents, I flipped to page 19 (where the remodeling advice starts) and was pleasantly surprised to find they had included MY tips and tricks for remodeling on a budget!!
I almost forgot that they had asked me for a few tips way back when they were in the writing process… so cool!
I also love that this book is such a quick read — like a “how-to” manual for simple living! Last week (on our Spring Break Staycation) I shared that I started reading this book — and I actually finished it that afternoon. It’s the type of book that you can just hop around to different chapters based on what information you are looking for, and there’s always something new you can pick up.
So if you’ve ever wondered when the best time to “save, stock up, and schedule” anything in your home/life, I’d highly recommend reading this book. It’s available at major bookstores and, of course, at Amazon.com… but you might want to wait to see if you win my giveaway first!

I try to stock up when I see a good deal, but a book like this would be such a great resource to help understand sale seasons & cycles.

I have “liked” your facebook page for a while now. Your blog about homemade cleaners have inspired me to try some that I did not know. I have been cleaning with vinegar, but some of your ideas were new to me!

I love following your blog and am slowly getting into doing more freezer cooking, which is a life saver now that baseball and softball have come into full swing for 3 in our household!
Your little tips that might seem like second nature can be a real “ah ha!” moment for others as they are for me!
I also “like” your site on facebook and look forward to more great ideas!!

I try to stock up when items are on sale. The one grocery store that is close to me tends to be over priced, so I try to shop what is in the ad only and supplement when I go to Walmart once a month in a town about 20 miles away. We also buy our meat in bulk buy having a cow butchered so we always have meat in the freezer.

During gardening season I always prepare and freeze lots of the veggie combinations needed to make some of our favorite dishes. This makes it easy to prepare and we can enjoy our garden year round!

I am new to your site and am going through all your posts to learn how to save and stock up! I think that making meals ahead of time and freezing them will be my best time saver. It is so hard during the week to find time with work and busy schedules to make a meal from scratch. I just need to set aside a baking day! Thanks for all the great advice Andrea.

One of my tips for saving, buy groceries in their sale cycle, saves probably thousands a year. Try to pay down your house early, it at all possible. We did and saved $140,000 in interest!

I am definately a stock up type of person. I like to buy with sales and stacked coupons. Last week when I went to the grocery store all I bought was 22 boxes of cereal at an average of $1.25 per box. Thank goodness I have a very large pantry.

I buy groceries at the lowest prices by ad matching at Walmart. I get the best deals of all the surrounding stores and save time and gas by shopping at one place instead of many. I also look at what I already have and plan a weeks worth of meals according to our families schedule and post on the fridge. Everyone knows whats for dinner and I’m using groceries that we all love and bought at the best price possible. Plus no running out to the store for ingredients I might’ve forgotten.

I use various websites to match up coupons with store sales and stock up. I have also begun shopping at Walmart because they take competitors’ coupons and price match. Hard to beat that!

My best tip is to clip only the coupons you know will you will use, otherwise you will have a mountain of coupons you never use creating extra clutter.
I have this book on my Amazon wish list, so it would be great to win a copy!

I stock up on items when they are on clearance with a coupon. I live in a small town with one decent grocery store (we are 60 miles from the nearest walmart) so if a “new” item doesnt sell well, normally I have a coupon to pair with the clearance!
Meg says
I have tried coupons to save, but usually find that I wouldn’t buy the coupon items anyway, either buy store brand or don’t buy the item at all. I’m working towards using vinegar for more cleaning uses as it’s cheap and more enviro friendly. Love your site/fb page!

While not complicated, my best method for scheduling is one that keeps my husband and I in sync. We use Google calendars (and have since we started dating) and have shared our calendars with one another. That way we a. know when something is going on for the other person and b. can “invite” one another to the event. Since we both work outside of the home, this prevents us from forgetting to bring up things we had scheduled throughout the work day.

When i stock up and save is at the beginning that is usaully when my store has the best deals like at the beginnging of this month they had a deal buy 1 steak get two free buy 1 chicken get 2 free it was great way to stock up.

I save money by dying my own hair with my favorite boxed coloring bought with coupons. My “broke friend” pays $80 at a salon & I average about $3 if the coupons are in my favor and my hair looks better!
I also try not to buy new “goodies” at the grocery store – even if they seem to be a good deal. If you don’t try the premium ice cream with 30+ grams of fat per serving, you can’t crave it later when it’s not on sale or you don’t have a coupon!
Kathleen says
Saving is not something I’ve been very good at–but I’m learning! Freezer cooking, meal planning, shopping the sales, and matching coupons to grocery flyers are all strategies I’ve learned to use to save and stock up–and I’m seeing the results already! A stocked freezer, less stress at dinnertime, and lower grocery bills. I just love that I can pull a baked good out of the freezer now when I’m asked to contribute to coffee hour at church–last night, I made a big batch of your easy layer bars using opened bags of baking goods I had laying around since Christmas (and probably would have ended up throwing out soon–thanks for the great idea!). ๐

We buy groceries through the flyer of the store and what is one sale and then of course the necessities (milk and the like). We also look through our coupon box for those items on sale and then use the store card.
Sheila says
I bought a half gallon of milk on sale for 99 cents last week because it only had 4 days to expiration. I froze it in 1/2 cup individual prep bowls, then put the frozen milk in vacuum sealed bags. So handy for cooking and the 99 cents was cheaper than one can of evaporated milk and a larger quantity.
I also save all of my chicken broth when boiling chicken. Same thing, I freeze it in 1/2 or 1 cup quantities. It is FREE!
Also, a new tip I discovered this week…I was making deviled eggs. When I was ready to take the eggs out of the hot water I reached for a large slotted spoon and instead got my spaghetti spoon….it worked wonderfully, better than a slotted spoon.

I commute about 35 miles each way to work, so I try to plan out errands to do after work before I drive home each day. I try not to drive into the city on the weekends by doing the errands during the week. And if I have plans for a weekend day, I try to take care of other things too so I don’t just drive in for 1 thing, and that’s partly just I that I feel guilty, and I don’t really want to drive in if I don’t have to on the weekends!

I try to plan all our meals, but only have 2-3 of them require fresh ingredients from the store, so if our plans change, food isn’t wasted. The other meals come from the pantry/freezer, things like pasta, which you can do a million different ways with pantry ingredients.

I stock up on food when it’s on sale, then I can “shop” from my basement! This also frequently prevents me from having to run out for that one item.
