UPDATE: This giveaway is now closed.
I’m really excited about today’s giveaway — partially because it’s a great book that totally fits with my quest for simple, organized living… but also because I know BOTH of the authors!
I’ve worked closely with Mandi from Life… Your Way and Tara from Deal Seeking Mom for the past 2 years and can attest that they are both amazing moms, wives, business women, bloggers… and just really fun ladies!
So, of course, I knew their first book, All in Good Time: When to Save, Stock Up, and Scheduled Everything for Your Home — would be a fantastic read. Between Mandi’s organizational and time management skills and Tara’s uncanny ability to find every deal, there is something for everyone inside the cover of their book.
Since we are planning to renovate our kitchen this summer, the text on the front cover “Remodel Your Kitchen” immediately caught my attention. After a quick glance through the table of contents, I flipped to page 19 (where the remodeling advice starts) and was pleasantly surprised to find they had included MY tips and tricks for remodeling on a budget!!
I almost forgot that they had asked me for a few tips way back when they were in the writing process… so cool!
I also love that this book is such a quick read — like a “how-to” manual for simple living! Last week (on our Spring Break Staycation) I shared that I started reading this book — and I actually finished it that afternoon. It’s the type of book that you can just hop around to different chapters based on what information you are looking for, and there’s always something new you can pick up.
So if you’ve ever wondered when the best time to “save, stock up, and schedule” anything in your home/life, I’d highly recommend reading this book. It’s available at major bookstores and, of course, at Amazon.com… but you might want to wait to see if you win my giveaway first!

Once a year, in the spring, I buy a large package of yeast (typically the bulk size is still only around $3) and pour it down our toilets. We have a well and this keeps things moving very well and we have never had to have our septic tank emptied.

Only buy things when they are on sale. Plan your meals around what you already have or can get on sale. Do not run out for an ingredient and pay full price. If you need to bring something some where, offer to bring something that you can make with what you have or with what you know you can get on sale.

When stocking up on food make sure to check your expiration dates when purchasing and as you are replenishing your stock. Always put the most current expiration up front so you are not wasting. We keep a chart with what we have, how much and the expiration so you have it on hand.

THere are several not-for-profits that will pick up at your home on a regular monthly schedule. I schedule one for every 6 weeks, regardless of whether I have something to donat or not. If I don’t, I go thhrough the house to find things. It forces me to donate regularly and requires minimal effort on my part.

It’s been my experience that the best time to book airline travel is on Tuesday & Wednesday. The best deals always appear on these days. Also if you can travel on Tues, Weds, or Saturday you can secure even better deals than traveling more congested days. My last tip i sto go directly to the airline’s website to book the travel. Many external travel sites charge small fees that can add up to big expense.

The tip that seems to work for me – using one spiral notebook to write EVERYTHING in (to do list, grocery list, home projects, etc.). I like it all together at my fingertips, plus with kids I always have an over abundance of spirals (that I got on sale!). Thanks for the giveaway.

I keep a binder of all the receipts for house purchases and keep a calendar to keep up with all of the seasonal to-dos! This helps keep me organized and keeps our house clear of clutter!

I like to pick up one or two extra cans of food for my storage each time I shop. It adds up to storage fairly fast!

My best tip for saving is to pay cash for everything. When there is no more money in the wallet, it is time to stop spending!

I love lists! I generally try to keep a daily list of EVERYthing I can think of that I need or want to do. THEN I prioritize the items to make sure that at least one thing gets done.
However, in order to maximize the joy of crossing things off “La Liste”, I add things to it that list that pop up during the day unplanned just so I can cross it off ๐

Our best way to save is to try to never buy anything on credit and to buy everything on credit!, Meaning we wait until we have the cash for major purchases that depreciate such as cars, appliances, etc. But we charge everything we can when we make our regular purchases so we can rack up enough points on our Meijer credit card to get as many as 3 -20% off coupons in a month. We just make sure we pay it off every month so we aren’t charged interest.

Every family member (five of us) has a different initial – I can note which person on the calendar this way. “T – doc appt.” “A – school conference.”

To SAVE SPACE (or rather utilize it), GO VERTICAL! We just downsized and in order to fit in more of our necessities, we went vertical with shelving, hutches, 4 ft. tall plastic drawers, cupboard above toilet. When your square footage is small, going vertical only uses say 1 sq ft of space, yet the tower with shelves or drawers or cupboards fives you 4 sq ft of storage! It has been a life saver

I’m with Steph…Google calendar is the way to go to keep my busy family of five on track! Love it (AND IT’s FREE!!!)! ๐

My favorite tip is to write my menu for the week on my grocery list. It helps me keep in mind which sale items or extras I need.
