UPDATE: This giveaway is now closed.
I’m really excited about today’s giveaway — partially because it’s a great book that totally fits with my quest for simple, organized living… but also because I know BOTH of the authors!
I’ve worked closely with Mandi from Life… Your Way and Tara from Deal Seeking Mom for the past 2 years and can attest that they are both amazing moms, wives, business women, bloggers… and just really fun ladies!
So, of course, I knew their first book, All in Good Time: When to Save, Stock Up, and Scheduled Everything for Your Home — would be a fantastic read. Between Mandi’s organizational and time management skills and Tara’s uncanny ability to find every deal, there is something for everyone inside the cover of their book.
Since we are planning to renovate our kitchen this summer, the text on the front cover “Remodel Your Kitchen” immediately caught my attention. After a quick glance through the table of contents, I flipped to page 19 (where the remodeling advice starts) and was pleasantly surprised to find they had included MY tips and tricks for remodeling on a budget!!
I almost forgot that they had asked me for a few tips way back when they were in the writing process… so cool!
I also love that this book is such a quick read — like a “how-to” manual for simple living! Last week (on our Spring Break Staycation) I shared that I started reading this book — and I actually finished it that afternoon. It’s the type of book that you can just hop around to different chapters based on what information you are looking for, and there’s always something new you can pick up.
So if you’ve ever wondered when the best time to “save, stock up, and schedule” anything in your home/life, I’d highly recommend reading this book. It’s available at major bookstores and, of course, at Amazon.com… but you might want to wait to see if you win my giveaway first!

My best tip to save would be to budget. My husband and I recently started budgeting and we have saved a lot from cutting back on unnecessary purchases.

I make my own laundry soap. It’s easy and quick. It costs a few cents per load. That is a huge savings over time.

I stock up on goods like toilet paper when I see a great bargin at Sams or Costco.

My favorite way to save money is to simply stay home more. I then do not spend money on non-essentials, I save on gas, plus I get the added benefit of more family time.

I stock up after the holidays when everything is 70-90% off.

I’m learning that the best thing for me to do is when I open/use the last container of something (ketchup, shampoo, 3 liter bottle of Diet Coke, etc.), I put that item on my shopping list and buy just ONE more when I go shopping. I used to “stock up” — and had way too much of everything. This works so much better for me.

I have learned to make sure I schedule all appts at the time when services are done so too much time does not go by before I get the appts made.

A well known tip I’m trying to follow: when you are interested in purchasing something, sleep on the idea instead of impulse buying. Do some research online to compare prices. You’ll be glad you did, and so will your wallet 🙂

Stock big on things you use when they are sale. Things I use often I will stock up for almost a years supply. Where I live it seems most thing come on sale seasonally, and I won’t another sale for another year.
Pat D says
Buy extra of your staples when they are on sale (case lots are a great way if you have the room). Also, when I need to cut my expenses after my salary was cut by 60%, I kept track of my spending for about 2 weeks (scary). Realized little ways I was wasting money (stopping at the store 2-3 x week, eating out, running errands). I can live within my means and still have some extra money leftover just by making some fairly simple changes. Biggest savings was dropping my cable (I really don’t watch TV) and that saved my $80/month.

I am a wife of 45 years, mom of three married children with 2 daughter-in-loves and one son-in-love, grandma to 13 wonderful grandchildren and I am learning at my old age from your blog. My time saving idea is schedule company to come for dinner two nights in a row. Then make the same meal and dessert ahead of time with enough food for each meal. Obviously the guests are different each night and the meal prep is cut in half. I have done this for years and it works great. Get to entertain and see friends and loved ones, with half the work.

I always schedule the next appointment when I finish getting my hair cut and/or colored. That way I’m not stuck trying to get an appointment last minute!

I buy larger batches and divide up in small packages to freezer of bread, cheese, meats etc.

Turn down the thermostat while at work and while sleeping. This way, the heat is really on for a few hours per day. Also, space heat– heat the room you are in and close the vents to unoccupied rooms.

Stock up on items that you always use when they’re on sale and you have a coupon. Toilet paper would be an example-something you always need!

I try to stay on a cleaning schedule, so I know exactly what day I will clean what part of the house. It makes chores seem more manageable and less overwhelming!

I’ve never been much of a saver, but since we’ve had to cut back in the past year, I’ve had to learn how and quickly! I stock up when there are sales or at end of the season with coupons, but only if its an item(s) that I know we will use. I’ve been planning our meals according to what we have in our pantry as well as whats on sale that week.

BTW, left a comment on Facebook. Enjoy your site!

A good time to stock up is post holiday or end of seasons.

we use very little paper towels and that’s our only paper product we use around the house. Everything else is glass, fabric, stainless steel, etc. We cloth diaper. I trade out hair services with a local health food store to get herbs, food, beauty supplies, etc. We hardly ever eat out, and when we do it’s not super pricey places. We joyfully receive hand-me-downs! We buy quality that costs more up front but lasts longer and in the long run saves money.

Love your site! My favorite way to save is to subscribe to emeals.com. I get a menu plan and grocery list and great recipes.
Melanie J says
The best way I save is to plan meals out for as long as I can, a week, until next payday, whatever. I use my crock pot like it’s my job and I buy extra meats when there is a sale so I can stockpile and plan further. There are a lot of crock pot freezer meals that I am excited about too so I can make some meals in advance!

I stock up on kids clothes at yard sales and consignment sales a couple of sizes and seasons ahead and store them. It’s not perfect, but avoids running out for snow or rain boots or a dress at the last minute paying full price.

When a product you use is on sale, buy a little extra. Next time you need it, you can “shop” from your stock pile!
Karen says
I coupon, which lead to buying brands I wouldn’t normally otherwise. It has been fun trying different products and I have found many new favourites. Best tip buying clothes off season. For example I will be loading up on shorts and swimsuits at the end of August for the following summer.

I noticed your name when I was reading this book, too! Fabulous book! I try to use all the coupons I can, and just be responsible with what God has given us.
