UPDATE: This giveaway is now closed.
I’m really excited about today’s giveaway — partially because it’s a great book that totally fits with my quest for simple, organized living… but also because I know BOTH of the authors!
I’ve worked closely with Mandi from Life… Your Way and Tara from Deal Seeking Mom for the past 2 years and can attest that they are both amazing moms, wives, business women, bloggers… and just really fun ladies!
So, of course, I knew their first book, All in Good Time: When to Save, Stock Up, and Scheduled Everything for Your Home — would be a fantastic read. Between Mandi’s organizational and time management skills and Tara’s uncanny ability to find every deal, there is something for everyone inside the cover of their book.
Since we are planning to renovate our kitchen this summer, the text on the front cover “Remodel Your Kitchen” immediately caught my attention. After a quick glance through the table of contents, I flipped to page 19 (where the remodeling advice starts) and was pleasantly surprised to find they had included MY tips and tricks for remodeling on a budget!!
I almost forgot that they had asked me for a few tips way back when they were in the writing process… so cool!
I also love that this book is such a quick read — like a “how-to” manual for simple living! Last week (on our Spring Break Staycation) I shared that I started reading this book — and I actually finished it that afternoon. It’s the type of book that you can just hop around to different chapters based on what information you are looking for, and there’s always something new you can pick up.
So if you’ve ever wondered when the best time to “save, stock up, and schedule” anything in your home/life, I’d highly recommend reading this book. It’s available at major bookstores and, of course, at Amazon.com… but you might want to wait to see if you win my giveaway first!

To save money, I buy three months worth of groceries at a time. That way I stay out of the stores and don’t buy extras we don’t need.

I always make sure I plan our meals around things that are on sale that week (and then use a coupon) and try to make a double batch for the freezer so on the weeks where the sales are scarce we have a back-up plan. I also always consult blogs for simpler, cheaper ways to tackle any projects that need to be done around my house from cleaning to repairing. Doing a little homework has saved us TONS of money!!

Ask yourself these questions prior to making a purchase: 1) Do I need it? 2) Can I afford it? 3) Will I really use it or take care of it? Sometimes the answer to #1 is No and you’ll move on, but there are other times that you’ll say to yourself that even though you don’t need it, you do want it. That’s when the other two questions really come into play. The final result is that if you do decide to make that purchase you’ve thought it through…and you’re going to pay cash.

Invest in a food organization system that you will actually use. The benefits are threefold: 1) You can see what you have, so less food is able to expire before you get to it, 2) You will be less tempted to grab fast food when you have your cut-up meats & veggies or bag of split peas ready for cooking, 3) You can use your food spaces to reflect your personal budget and style. Whether you go with Mason jars, Sterlite, or Tupperware, there are so many options, you’re bound to find something that feels right for you.

Don’t buy something just because it is on sale. Only buy what you really need or will use.

A few months ago, I began making double batches of most meals I prepare and then freezing the other half. The meals I prepare usually result in leftovers that my husband and I can take to work for lunch. So that one cooking endeavor results in 4 meals saving us time, money, and frustration tryign to figure out what to eat! ๐

I clip coupons and look to the experts (grocery game) to lead me in the right direction. I am in awe of those who actually get stuff for free (Andrea – this means you!)! This book might lead me to the promised land and help me to be the expert!

Stock up at case lot sales. But first make sure that buying by the case is a good idea.
Heather says
Stock up on holiday themed items after the holiday. A lot of stuff is not that holiday specific (e.g. “Valentine’s” cake mix that’s just pink) or will last until next year.

my best tip is to do it,schedule it or give it a home as soon as it comes in, that way you won’t forget and you won’t feel like things to do just fall on your lap
