Over the past 3 months, we’ve been living without a “real kitchen”. Sure, we created a somewhat functional kitchen in our office… but it didn’t have running water (so you can image how functional it really is!)
In an effort to simplify our lives while living without a kitchen (and without a bathtub or utility sink to wash dishes), we decided to use all plastic bowls, plates, cups, and utensils — yes, they are recyclable! We also used slow cooker liners to cook in our slow cookers, disposable plastic containers to store food, and disposable aluminum pans to bake in our toaster over.
It’s amazing how FEW dishes we had to wash this entire summer!
However, one of the kitchen items I simply could not replace with a disposable alternative was a good sharp utility knife (and yes, I did try — but cutting onions, fruits, and veggies with a plastic knife didn’t work very well.)
Thankfully, Wüsthof sent me their new Micro-Serrated 4.5-inch Utility Knife — and it has quickly become my new go-to knife for just about any quick cutting task.
I realize I’m not a master chef, but this knife makes me feel like a pro!
I’m a big fan of the smaller size — it’s big enough for any small to medium cutting task (no, I wouldn’t tackle a watermelon with this knife) but still small enough that my hand isn’t sore after using it. Plus it’s basically 2 knives in one (yay for space-saving) because it has BOTH a straight and serrated edge which really comes in handy.
I have a few really nice knives… but I’ve never sharpened them because I was sort of intimidated by the whole process. Wüsthof wanted to help me out here too, so they sent their 2-Stage Universal Knife Sharpener… and it honestly makes the whole process super easy. The knife sharpener has 2 notches to quickly and easily sharpen pretty much any knife you own; and it’s small enough to store right in your kitchen drawer.
After about 15 minutes, I was able to sharpen all my knives (they are ready and waiting for lots of use once our kitchen is finished!)
If you’re looking for a great knife and knife sharpener to add to your collection (or to give as a gift), you’ll definitely want to enter my giveaway below.

We have a knife sharpener stick and we TRY to sharpen the chef knives every time we use them. But the stick doesn’t work as well as other sharpeners. I know we took them in to a kitchen store about 2 years ago to get professionally done! Would be sweet if I could do it at home!

I would LOVE to get both of these. I don’t have a good knife, and all the knives I do have are serrated so I can’t sharpen them!!!! ;(

My chef’s knife was last sharpened about a month or so ago. My husband always does an excellent job with this task. After chopping lots of summer veggies, it’s in need of another one!

I took my knives to the farmers market two(?!) years ago and had them sharpened.

Hi Andrea! I like the looks of this knife! Thanks for trying it out and hosting this generous giveaway! I would probably never have known about this knife if you hadn’t! I generally, don’t sharpen my knives, I hone them before I use them. The honing keeps the edges sharp and even without cutting down the blade. Thanks again! Blessings from Bama!

It would definitely help to have a knife that I could use I hate having to use big bulky knives.

I have never sharpened my knives. 🙁 I got them as a wedding gift 5 years ago and they are in a sad state because I cokk ALL.THE.TIME. This gift would be a an amazing addition!
Marie says
I don’t sharpen anything but my husband does. He will sharpen his fishing fillet knives and then go into the kitchen and “feel” if anything needs sharpening. That is one thing I don’t need to worry about.
Deb says
Already liked you on FB, just liked the knives……
Deb says
I never sharpen the knives, except my old Pampered Chef ones that are in the self sharpening sleeve. My dh sharpens them if he cuts a turkey or something like that. I have some old CUTCO knives that they will sharpen for free, but it is a hassle to mail them in for that, so alas, they stay “unsharpened.” Thanks for the giveaway………

This is such a timely offer. My knives are in bad need of sharpening, and I just haven’t known what would be a good sharpener. This would be great to try!

The answer would be never. I’m way too intimidated and I’m not sure my knives are durable enough to be sharpened? Make sense? I love to cook and a good knife is on my kitchen “wish list”.
Jenny says
We used to get our knives professionally sharpened…then we bought a block to do it at home…it still does not compare to a professionally done sharpening! It has been months.
