You’ve heard of high-maintenance families, high-profile families, and high-income families. Right?
Well, we are what you might call a “high carb” family — we love all varieties of bread. Add a little garlic, some butter, a bunch of cheese, and throw it under the broiler…and we’re even happier.
NOTE: If you’re on a low carb diet, turn away — don’t torture yourself!
I’m a huge fan of cheesy garlic bread, but store-bought garlic bread is so high in fat, preservatives {and price} that I just can’t justify it. Especially since it is SO quick and easy to whip up your own favorite recipe at home.
You really can’t go wrong with this recipe {if you can even call it a recipe}. The only real ingredient you need is bread! Mix and match your favorite cheeses, butters, seasonings, etc. to make a comfort food your family will devour.
Ingredients:
- 6 slices of good French bread — feel free to use bread that’s a few days old
- 3 T. butter
- 4 cloves minced garlic
- 1/2 c. shredded Mozzarella cheese
- 1/4 c. shredded Parmesan cheese
Directions:
- Generously butter each slice of bread
- Spread minced garlic over each slice
- Top with equal amounts of cheese — I use a micro-plane grater to grate the Parmesan cheese.
Bake at 450 {on the top rack} for 10 minutes, or until the cheese is slightly browned and bubbly.
You’ll want to stay close by as the cook time varies based on your oven’s temperature and your preferences. Do you like your bread soft? Bake it for 8 minutes. Do you prefer it nice and crunchy? Bake it for 12. We like our bread slightly darkened with bubbly cheese so 10 minutes is usually perfect.
Eat immediately — as if you could resist!
Simplicity is one reason Cheesy Garlic Bread is a family favorite. Taste is the other!

My family is right there with you in the High – Carb hall of fame! I’ve often used garlic powder on my bread – but now I’m wondering why I never thought to mince the real stuff?! Heavenly!

Oh, my friend introduced me to this, pure sin! You can’t stop once you get started. I love, love love it! We are carb lovers too. I have tried the low carb, but everything I love to cook is high carb so I gave that up! Cooking and eating is just too much pleasure.
