OK, you had to know this post was coming at some point — especially since I’ve already professed my love for the iPhone — my most favorite tech gadget ever! {Yes, Nora loves it too!}
Dave and I used our old flip phones with no texting and no data package for years… and we didn’t feel deprived. But now that we’ve finally upgraded, I have to say it is worth the extra cost — especially for the type of work I do.
We’ve had our phones for about 6 months now and I’m having so much fun downloading all sorts of free Apps, taking lots of photos, and figuring out all the many things the iPhone can do.
I’ve also had fun browsing the many, MANY different Apple and iPhone accessories!
Here are five of my favorites…
1. Anti-Glare, Anti-Scratch, Anti-Fingerprint Screen Protector
Not only does this inexpensive accessory reduce the glare on the phone’s screen, it also protect the screen from being scratched (it’s a glass screen) and allows fingerprints to easily be wiped away.
And since the iPhone is totally unusable without it’s screen, I figured I should probably use a screen protector.
2. Speck Candy Shell
I love the name of these iPhone cases 🙂 and I also love that they are REALLY hard cases {not just skins} that will protect my phone every time Nora “drops” it {don’t worry, we have insurance!}. We purchased the Speck cases the day we bought our phones and I’ve been extremely happy with them since day one.
I also love that the corners and the outer edges of the Speck cases are lined with rubber which makes them “non slip”… also very convenient!
3. Energizer USB Car Charger
So I did a giveaway for these chargers a couple weeks ago — and honestly, I absolutely LOVE my car charger. Since I use my phone all day long, I frequently need to charge it… and I often forget until I’m on my way out the door, so this car charger has saved my butt several times already.
It’s nice for traveling too because it can either plug into our car OR plug directly into our computers… so we can basically charge our phones anywhere.
4. Jobi GorillaMobile Tiny Tripod
No, this isn’t a necessity but the tiny tripod sure makes taking photos with my iPhone a lot easier! It’s also completely flexible so you can get the exact camera angle you want.
5. iHome Stereo System
The main thing I like about the iHome stereo system is the small size. It hardly takes up any space but provides great sound for listening to music at home… or in Nora’s nursery {thank-you Pandora radio app!}
One other cool thing about all these accessories is that they all work with iPods too {we don’t have an iPod… but it would be cool if you did!}

Andrea, do you know if these awesome wall chargers (#3 on your list) are available for the newer iPhones? I can’t seem to find one, but thought maybe you have upgraded your old style to a new style.
Andrea says
sorry, I have no idea. maybe search Amazon?

We’re an iFamily…iPhones, iPods, iPad, Apple TV, Airport and MacBook but honestly we don’t have any accessories besides the cases, which we got for free because I work at the unamed telecommunications provider ๐ But I do like the idea of the protectors since my kids are always playing with one or the other of our gadgets. I also really want the iHome because I use my phone as an alarm clock.

We’re thinking of getting my husband an iPhone when he upgrades soon, but he’s hesitant because we already hate iTunes so much and he’s not sure he wants to deal with it on his phone. I’ll show him this post and see what he thinks.

I hate i Tunes too! But I desire the HOPEFUL time saving of the iPhone – not sure what to do!

Hi Jen!
When I saw your post, I had to smile. Because I also hate iTunes. That and the lack of customization one can do on an iPhone was a real turn off for me. I had never been a fan of Apple for that reason.
But you know, everyone have an iPhone so I jumped into the bandwagon.
& boy was I glad. I love the iPhone for it’s multitude of apps in the Apple App store. Putting up with iTunes was worth it for me. Why does your husband hate it? Do you guys listen and organize music & find it unfriendly?
As much as I loved it, I had migrated over to the bigger Android screen phones. If the next Apple phone will at least be a 4.3 (which doesn’t sound like it), I will gladly jump back on again!

Can you use the ihome stereo system with the spec candy shell on the phone?

I just read your article 10 things we don’t buy. Then came upon this article right after. I guess it is a lesson on never say never. lol. As your life gets more complicated sometimes you have to bite the bullet and give in a little. I’m glad that you are enjoying your new toys. I like to think with the effort that I put into trying to save money here and there, if there is something I need, I have made up for it in other ways.

I love my iPhone and can’t imagine my life without it!! I was just wondering what are your favorite apps on the iPhone?? I’m constantly looking for apps that will help me in my quest to be more organized and have everything in one location ie shopping lost, meal planner, banking apps, budgeting apps…the list can go on!

I’m in love with my phone! After years of having those generics that really did nothing and fighting my husband to NOT get any iphones since I was not ecstatic about the price I finally gave in…AND I’M SO GLAD I DID! Bloggers like us get supper busy with all the comments, emails, posts, etc. It really helps to have a mini computer with you at all times so you can get more done when you’re out running errands.
That being said I don’t really have any accessories besides the screen protector. We both got those right away since we know how easy it is to mess up a screen. Oh, and we got the cases as well, and you’re right, they are really awesome.
I can’t wait to get a blue tooth so I can have my hands free everywhere I go since I’m on the phone CONSTANTLY!

Hmmmm. I do LOVE my new iPad, but I just don’t know if I can make the leap to the iPhone.
I have had a Blackberry for 3 years. I never use the internet, but I do get all my email on the phone.
I love the “real keys” on a blackberry for texting and emailing.
How do you like the touch screen keypad?
Also, do you LOVE it, because you also got a MAC and they sync?
