Weekend Giveaway: Wüsthof Knife and Knife Sharpener Set

Over the past 3 months, we’ve been living without a “real kitchen”. Sure, we created a somewhat functional kitchen in our office… but it didn’t have running water (so you can image how functional it really is!)

In an effort to simplify our lives while living without a kitchen (and without a bathtub or utility sink to wash dishes), we decided to use all plastic bowls, plates, cups, and utensils — yes, they are recyclable! We also used slow cooker liners to cook in our slow cookers, disposable plastic containers to store food, and disposable aluminum pans to bake in our toaster over.

It’s amazing how FEW dishes we had to wash this entire summer!

However, one of the kitchen items I simply could not replace with a disposable alternative was a good sharp utility knife (and yes, I did try — but cutting onions, fruits, and veggies with a plastic knife didn’t work very well.)

Thankfully, Wüsthof sent me their new Micro-Serrated 4.5-inch Utility Knife — and it has quickly become my new go-to knife for just about any quick cutting task.

I realize I’m not a master chef, but this knife makes me feel like a pro!

I’m a big fan of the smaller size — it’s big enough for any small to medium cutting task (no, I wouldn’t tackle a watermelon with this knife) but still small enough that my hand isn’t sore after using it. Plus it’s basically 2 knives in one (yay for space-saving) because it has BOTH a straight and serrated edge which really comes in handy.

I have a few really nice knives… but I’ve never sharpened them because I was sort of intimidated by the whole process. Wüsthof wanted to help me out here too, so they sent their 2-Stage Universal Knife Sharpener… and it honestly makes the whole process super easy. The knife sharpener has 2 notches to quickly and easily sharpen pretty much any knife you own; and it’s small enough to store right in your kitchen drawer.

After about 15 minutes, I was able to sharpen all my knives (they are ready and waiting for lots of use once our kitchen is finished!)

    Ugh. I have never sharpened our knives. We have really terrible, crappy knives and my plan has always been to upgrade…someday. We’ve been married ten years now, and we still have the same knives. This knife and sharpener would be a great place for us to start our collection!

    We are always sharpening knives. We don’t do them all at the same time, just when needed. It is amazing the ease of cutting when you have a freshly sharpened knife. We have a set, but this knife would be the perfect addition, b/c I am always using a similar sized one for cutting up my daughters food.

    I can’t remember the last time I’ve sharpened my knives! I know sharp knives are important, though, and I really should do something about my knives!

    I am not much on knife sharpening but will take my steel to a blade before I have to seriously cut. Could really use a good sharpener.

    Oh goodness, this is the most exciting giveaway. I would love another Wustoff knife! I got married in May and was given one excellent knife, with a knife sharpener, but I need a smaller utility knife, which this sounds like it would be. I do sharpen my one knife regularly, though!

    I have to sharpen my knives every day because they are such poor quality. I did it last noght while on the phone, but i have to use a steel rod type thing. I’m not very good at it!

    It’s been a while since they’ve had a real sharpening. This would be great… Working with a freshly sharpened knife is so nice (and safer!).

    We had ours sharpened last summer by a professional. You don’t realize how dull they are until you get them sharpened!

    The last time I sharpened my knives was about six months ago. My ex husband had come to pick up my daughter and he saw me struggling with a knife. He had always kept our knives sharp. He quickly sharpened all my knives. It would be nice to be able to sharpen the knives myself!!!
