How to Store Extra Linens

posted by Andrea | 01/31/2012 | 11 comments

Since this is the time of the year to stock up on linens during all the “white sales” at local department stores, I thought it might be a good time to talk about storing and organizing extra sheets, blankets, comforters, pillows, towels, etc.

I’m sharing some of my simple storage ideas… but I’d love to know how you store your extra linens as well.

ONE Ham – SEVEN Meals

posted by Andrea | 01/30/2012 | 12 comments

Since meat is one of the most expensive things on our grocery list each week, I’m always looking for ways to stretch good cuts of meat in our weekly meal plans. So when I found a great deal on ham during the Christmas season, I bought a couple and used up the first one last week.

I created a meal plan that used ham every single night… and no one even noticed! Come see how I fed 4 people for an entire with with one $4.00 ham!

What Photo Editing Programs Do You Use?

posted by Andrea | 01/26/2012 | 17 comments

As some of you might already know, my favorite photo editing program, Picnik, is shutting down on April 19. I have been using the Pro version of Picnik for a couple years now and absolutely LOVE how simple it is to use… especially for a novice photographer like myself!

I’ve already started looking into different photo editing programs… but I’d love to get your input too. What are your favorite photo-editing programs… and why?

Slow Cooker Western Egg Casserole

posted by Andrea | 01/25/2012 | 19 comments

Thanks to my new meal planning method, we have breakfast for dinner once each week. We do this partially because we really like breakfast foods, but also because breakfast foods are great way to get lots of protein without spending money on expensive cuts of meat.

However, the one thing I don’t always like about breakfast foods is the inability to prepare them ahead of time — so I’m really excited to share this delicious slow cooker breakfast recipe with you today!

10 Odd Spots to Keep in Mind When House Cleaning

posted by Andrea | 01/24/2012 | 19 comments

I know it’s still January… but I never like waiting until spring to do ALL my spring cleaning. I think it’s much simpler and less overwhelming to tackle a little bit at a time.

The following guest post from Jakob has a bunch of great tips for cleaning those odd spots around your home that you might not get to during your weekly cleaning.

Nora is 2 Months Old!

posted by Andrea | 01/23/2012 | 11 comments

Nora turned TWO months old yesterday… and seems pretty darn excited about it.

For one-month photo shoot, we had to take so many pictures because she was either sleeping or crying… this month, we also had to take a bunch, but it was because she was moving SO much!

How I Organize Our Tax Documents in Minutes!

posted by Andrea | 01/23/2012 | 16 comments

Every year around this time, I start getting lots and lots of emails from people who are overwhelmed and don’t know how to get all their tax documents organized for the upcoming tax season.

And while I know it can seem like an extremely time-consuming task, I use a really SIMPLE system that allows me to have all my tax documents ready to go within minutes… seriously!

My Favorite Mexican “Base Mixture”

posted by Andrea | 01/21/2012 | 7 comments

We eat a lot of Mexican food around our house… and since I’m a huge fan of simple dinner recipes, I’ve created a really delicious Mexican “base recipe” that I use almost once a week.

I usually make a double or triple batch of this mixture and store several 2-cup portions in the freezer. Then anytime we have a Mexican meal on our weekly menu plan, I defrost one container, add any other necessary ingredients {tortillas, lettuce, sauce, etc.} and can have dinner on the table in a matter of minutes!

She Looks Just Like Her Mom

posted by Andrea | 01/19/2012 | 7 comments

I’ve been getting lots of emails and comments about how much Nora looks like me… and I have to say I agree!

However the other day, as I was looking through my old pictures {on our portable hard drive}, I came across this picture of me — crying in my bouncy seat. I have an almost identical picture of Nora crying in her bouncy seat…

What do you think? Does she look like her mom?

Creative, Decorative, and Inexpensive Storage Solutions

Whenever I work with organizing clients their #1 question is usually “what type of storage containers should I buy?”

And while I agree that storage containers are a big part of any organizing project, I ALWAYS tell them not to buy anything because, I first try to take something they already own and re-purpose it as a storage container for their specific space — saving them time, money, and space.

Here are a few of my favorite creative, decorative, and inexpensive storage ideas from around our house!

My Favorite Beauty Products

posted by Andrea | 01/18/2012 | 17 comments

I get a lot of questions about the different beauty products I use… which is kind of hilariousness because I’m definitely not that into cosmetics. I usually just use whatever I can find for free after rebate and coupons!

However, I’ve received enough emails that I thought I should write a post with a few of my favorite beauty product… you know, the ones I’d buy even if I didn’t have a coupon {and that means I really like them!}

Tips for Being “On-Time” With Kids

posted by Andrea | 01/17/2012 | 22 comments

I’ve always been a pretty punctual person — often arriving a bit early to meetings and appointments. I hate being late or feeling rushed, so thankfully it’s almost second nature for me to plan ahead, leave early, and arrive on time!

I had a feeling all of this might change after Nora was born, but thankfully I got some great advice that has helped me to still be somewhat on time…. even with a new baby!

My 2012 Financial Workbook {Plus Free Download}

posted by Andrea | 01/16/2012 | 40 comments

Last year, I shared the handy Excel workbook I’ve been using to track my finances every year since I was in college. Obviously, I’ve updated throughout the years… but the basic concept is the same and it works wonderfully for me. Based on all the emails I get, I assume it also works wonderfully for many of you!

I’ve created an updated version for 2012 and have a FREE downloadable version available for anyone who wants it!

Slow Cooker Vietnamese Chicken

posted by Andrea | 01/14/2012 | 15 comments

Earlier this week I shared a few slow cooker receips I want to try in the coming months — and I mentioned that I already had one very successful and extremely delicious meal to share with you… Vietnamese Chicken!

Since I had all the other ingredients in our house — and since this recipe specifically calls for FROZEN chicken, I quickly whipped it up and threw it in the crock pot. The chicken was absolutely delicious, full of flavor, and actually quite “Asian tasting” — which is something I’ve never been able to achieve with other recipes!
