As of 12:20 this afternoon, Simon will officially be 5 years old!
We celebrated him all weekend long, and we will continue celebrating today with lots of special foods, treats, activities, parties, gifts, etc.
- We went to Culver’s for dinner on Friday.
- We had his birthday party with grandparents, aunts, and uncles on Saturday.
- We sang Happy Birthday to him in Sunday School after church.
- He got cinnamon rolls (and one more gift from us) for breakfast this morning.
- He will pass out his birthday treat at school today.
- AND I’m the “special parent helper” for his preschool class today!
Here are a few pictures from his special weekend.
His party was nothing fancy, just a bunch of our superhero stuff with black and red plates, napkins, etc.
Since it was a morning party (totally the way to go, in my opinion) I didn’t even need to make a cake. Just donuts, fruit, and apple cider (per Simon’s request!)
He got all sorts of gifts, several $5 bills, and enough sugar to last him awhile!
.
Life is so good when you’re 5!
Simon is honestly one of the sweetest, kindest, most thoughtful people I know.
Yes, he has his days, he gets in bad moods, he disobeys, he has fits, etc. just like any other kid, but he is always so concerned about others — making sure there’s enough food or snacks for everyone, making sure everyone has a toy, making sure everyone is included.
I can’t wait to see how his sweet personality develops as he gets older.
Simon LOVES preschool, especially “choice time” and “snack time”.
He has been looking forward to this week when he gets to be the special helper due to his birthday.
When it comes to bikes, scooters, tractors, cars, etc. etc. Simon is ALL BOY and then some!
And in true “rough and tumble boy” fashion, he was our first child to visit the ER — 3 stitches in his forehead this summer.
Looking back over the past year (as I’m working on his digital photo album) I can’t believe how much he has grown and changed in one year’s time — all for the better too (in my unbiased opinion!)
Our family is so lucky to have this sweet boy in it!

This is a beautiful birthday tribute for Simon! when I look back at their little personalties between ages 2-6, it definitely followed them all into adulthood. Simon is ell on his way to becoming an amazing man. This doesn’t happen in a vacuum, good job Andrea and Dave.
Donut breakffast party is genius.
Andrea says
oh this makes me SO happy to read — Simon will hopefully grow up to be just as kind and caring as he is now!
Kim says
This world needs more kind and thoughtful people like Simon!
PS Did I notice baby sister has some piggy tails! My babies were bald for forever!
Andrea says
yes, Clara’s hair had a growth spurt and we rock little pigtails on a regular basis now 🙂
