Yes, you read the title of this post correctly — Simon is a whole year old already!!
Compared to Nora’s first year, I feel like Simon’s first year just FLEW by — after all, wasn’t it just last week when we took our squishy baby home from the hospital?
I feel like he’s growing up so fast — which, in my opinion, is a really good thing!
He’s making some animal noises (the duck is our personal favorite — “kak kak”), trying to “talk”, waving, saying “cheese”, climbing all over the place, and…. walking a few steps!
(yes, he did climb up there all by himself!)
(this is his “cheese” face, not an “I’m in pain” face!)
Sometimes I feel like his good-natured personality allows me to “ignore” him more (especially since Nora requires much more of my daily attention) but then I just tell myself that he’s learning valuable skills on how to play by himself 🙂
And you know what, he’s REALLY good at entertaining himself for short periods of time (as good as a one year old can be, of course).
Overall, he has been a very “easy” baby — which is one of the reasons #3 is on the way so soon. We are very thankful for his usually “happy-go-lucky” personality, and have also enjoyed watching a more serious side of him develop lately.
Of course, he and Nora are still a pretty fun duo to hang out with every day. Yes, they get themselves into lots of trouble and mischief, but it has been really fabulous to watch them actually start playing together and having fun with each other!
Hopefully the fun will continue for years to come.
And yes, I’ll be back next week with the details of Simon’s Thomas the Train Party — courtesy of Miss Nora, the party planner (seriously, I can’t wait to show you the ideas this girl has dreamed up — including HER costume for the party!) 🙂

Happy Birthday Simon!! Time FLIES by! Everyday “feels” the same but again I am putting away clothes my daughter has outgrown and baby toys.
I am loving the little caddy on the table, by the way! I need something like that for baby spoons, napkins and our copy of the JSB! I have learned SO much reading that to my 9 month old daughter!
Andrea says
Thanks Lauren — I got the little wooden caddy from my neighbor’s garage sale this past summer — it’s perfect for our napkins, salt, pepper, baby bibs, etc.!

I’m telling you(as if you didn’t already know), your children are adorable! Anticipating hearing about Nora’s ideas for the party. She is something else!

Happy birthday, sweet boy! Is he tall like Nora was? He looks like he has long legs. So sweet.
Andrea says
he is SUPER tall — like WAY off the charts for height ๐ He’s actually even taller than Nora was and she was in the 98th percentile. He’s wearing 18-24 mo. clothes — most likely thanks to Dave ๐

Happy Birthday Simon!
I noticed this the other day, but did you move Simon to a toddler bed? If so, how has it gone? We are going to transition our 15 month old soon (due to necessity) and I love all insight!
Andrea says
Hey Jen. We just bought a toddler bed because it was right down the road, only $20 and it came with a really nice mattress — and we knew we’d need another mattress either way.
We’re honestly thinking about just buying another crib for now and transitioning him to a toddler bed later, but we’ll see what we decide in the next couple of months.
I’m basing this on your email address, assuming I know you in real life ๐ But if you’re the Jen I know expecting twins this summer, I’m guessing you’ll eventually need 2 cribs once the twins get older, right?? So maybe you could get 2 cribs now and wait a few more months to transition to the toddler bed if you feel she isn’t quite ready.
On the other hand, Nora HATED her crib and transitioned to a twin bed at 10 months old and only fell out once ๐ So every kid is definitely different. Simon absolutely LOVES his crib and I think he might sleep better and longer in a crib — so that’s my current reasoning for potentially buying a 2nd crib.
I’ll definitely share what we decide sometimes in the next 4 months, so hopefully in time for you ๐
Jen says
Yup! It’s me ๐
Elyse has always been a really good sleeper – we lay her down and she sleeps. So we were hoping that by moving her to a twin on the floor, with a rail before she learns to crawl out of her crib that maybe we could make the switch at 18 months.
My end game is to buy as little as possible (let’s hope that is possible) So we are hoping to skip the toddler bed and by a twin mattress for her and then buy 1 extra crib and mattress.
I will be so interested about how Simon transitions to a bed! Hopefully it goes smoothly for you when you decide to do it!!
