Simon is 3 months old today!
He’s growing like a weed, and really starting to show us his personality.
In general, he’s pretty laid back (like his daddy) and really doesn’t cry much unless he’s hungry, tired, or has a poopy diaper — all totally acceptable reasons in my book!
He’s drooling like crazy, and basically sucks on his right hand ALL day long (I’m guessing he’s teething, but unfortunately I don’t expect teeth to pop through any time soon).
He’s officially rolling over — which is about a month earlier than Nora. He was proud as a peacock the first time he rolled over after a nap. I saw it over the monitor and then went into his room to seem him smiling up at me from his crib.
“See mom, I don’t need your help anymore!”
I can get him to smile almost any time, and getting him to giggle is pretty easy too.
He’s basically the sweetest baby ever — as long as we stay home ALL day long, feed him every 2 hours, and let him catnap in his crib on his tummy multiple times a day 🙂
Try shoving him into his carseat to go anywhere and he will scream non-stop until you arrive.
Try forcing him to sleep on his back (like if he’s tired in the carseat or stroller) and he will scream non-stop until you lay him flat on his tummy.
Try rocking him to sleep or holding him when he’s tired and he’ll squirm and fuss until you lay him down — and then he instantly relaxes and drifts off to sleep.
Try giving him his pacifier when he’s hungry, and you will need ear plugs 🙂
As long as you do these things, he will sit contently in his bouncy seat and stare at you for a LONG LONG time!
Due to his intense hatred of his carseat, we (or at least he) rarely ever goes anywhere. Church is usually the only time he gets out each week — unless it’s to drop him off at a relative’s house while the rest of us go out. It’s just not worth having him scream non-stop.
Thankfully, he will tolerate his carseat for short walks (20 minutes or less) as long as he’s not too tired, as long as I keep moving, and as long as I have a noise-making toy along.
We’re really hoping he gets over this quickly as we’d like to get out and about more this summer!

Simon was baptized on Mother’s Day — read more about that here. He was a total stud muffin in the outfit I made out of my wedding dress!
He’s sleeping really well at night — going to bed around 7:30 or 8:00 and not waking up until 4:30 or 5:00 on most days. Then he’ll eat and go back to sleep until around 8:00 or 8:30am. He doesn’t really have a set schedule during the day, but he usually takes a few shorter naps throughout the day with a longer nap in the afternoon.
I’m honestly amazed how quickly he just naturally conformed to a more “normal” baby sleeping schedule with absolutely NO extra effort from us. So totally opposite Nora who never took a nap without at least an hour of rocking, pacing, walking, driving, etc. etc.
Nora, Simon, and I have been spending lots of time outside thanks to the gorgeous Michigan weather (and the fact that I’m doing lots of yard work).
He seems to like being outside (especially in his bouncy seat) and Nora is thrilled to entertain him.

None of my three children ever liked the car seat either, until they were old enough to turn around (which in Sydney, Australia, is 6 months), then they magically stopped crying. We figured it was because they could SEE where they were going. Much more fun. My third child was also a tummy sleeper as well and would scream the house down, if we put him on his back to sleep. Your son is adorable and I think he looks a lot like you! Love those eyelashes!

Yes Julie, that’s when Nora started really liking her car seat too (when she could turn around). Unfortunately, in the US, they don’t want you to turn them around until age TWO!! We turned Nora around at 10 months because she was SOOOO much happier. We’ll see what we do with Simon ๐

Cute boy! I didn’t use a teething anklet with my son, and he’d drool through 5-10 bibs a day. I purchased a Baltic Amber teething anklet for my daughter when she was 3 months. Wow! She hardly drools and isn’t really fussy. My son had a horrible time with teething. It could be that it would be easier for her without it, but when I’ve kept it off for any length of time, she did get fussy. I ordered it from hazelaid.com, as my friend used them with two of her kids (necklaces). My daughter got her first tooth at 4-1/2 months (same as my son). Best wishes!

Thanks for the link — I never thought of getting a bracelet or anklet instead of the teething necklace (which I always thought was a little wired for boys!)

Awww! So big! My pediatrician just said that from 2 months on, drooling kicks in – teething or not. I was relieved because my baby is drooling like crazy! We broke the bibs out this week just for that purpose. I’m thrilled Simon’s such a good sleeper for you, too!

I forgot to mention that adorable baptismal outfit. How cute is that. Total Stud as you said. Nice work, Mom!

He’s adorable! Those lashes go on forever! My kids loved their bouncy seats and wouldn’t sleep unless they were on their tummies either. That double stroller is great. My kids couldn’t see each other in the one we used to have. Hope he gets used to that car seat so you can have more family outings. Thanks for sharing the cute pics!

He is scrumptious! Do his eyelashes tickle his little forehead? They are SO long!
So glad he’s been easier to to get into a routine for you. Hopefully the carseat will be less of an issue soon. Now that my youngest little guy is 18 months he asks to go in the car. “Car go? Pease!” I don’t know if it’s because it sort of coincided with the fact that he now loves his car toys, or that he figured out he gets to do more fun stuff when we go in the car, but this definitely has NOT always been his attitude about the car. So there is hope! ๐
Andrea says
haha — he does have long eyelashes (just like Nora)!
Thanks for the encouragement about the car seat — I’m not too worried right now. Nora didn’t always love riding in the car as much as she does now — but she also was never as fussy as Simon in the carseat. We’ll just keep taking a few little trips here and there and hopefully he’ll start to enjoy it more!

Good morning, Andrea,
As always, I enjoyed reading your blog this morning! Simon is adorable! And Nora seems to have adapted well to having a new baby around!
I can relate to Simon despising his car seat. Our one son was that way, and it made for a “long” trip when we had to go anywhere that was a distance from our home. especially at night! The street lamps would cause him to wake, he would scream, he was inconsolable, it was arduous! Eventually he got used to it, and traveling was better, but it did take some time!
Our children were tummy sleepers as well; no backs for them! And although each one took to a pacifier, our fourth did not like it at all one bit, relying on his hand instead. When they were teething, as you mentioned Simon is beginning to, we used a device called a “Gummy Yummy” from Discovery Toys. I have no idea if it is still in production, but it was great! It was a red somewhat circular teether, filled with fluid, that had various textures and teething surfaces, some that “branched” out from the center, and could be frozen. Since it had a hole in the center, it could be attached with their plastic colorful “chains’ to their bouncy seat, stroller, etc. They loved that thing! Of course we did not “discover” this wondrous device until our second came along, and I was invited to a party. For our first, we relied on a chilled, large peeled carrot! Our daughter enjoyed that, it would sometimes fall asleep gnawing on it in her high chair! ๐
Again, thank you for sharing your life with us! Enjoy your day!
Deirdre

Thanks so much Deirdre! We do have some smaller teething items that can clip onto toys! I’ve even tried holding them in/near his mouth for him — but right now, he just seems to prefer his hand. I do like the “chilled large peeled carrot” idea though ๐
