Are We Giving To Satisfy Ourselves?

posted by Andrea | 12/6/2016 | 40 comments

There are so many times when we (myself included) have our own agendas for giving — we want to give what WE want to give, whether it is useful or needed or appreciated by the recipient.

I hope today’s post reminds all of us to take few minutes to think how our gifts might best be used — not only for family and friends but also donations and other charitable giving!

A Few Things to Consider Before You Donate

Although the holiday season is often filled with consumerism and spending money, there is also a HUGE amount of charitable giving that takes place this time of year.

Today, I’m sharing my thoughts after a few recent conversations with donation centers and volunteers… definitely something to consider the next time you’re ready to head to your local donation center or food pantry.

I’m excited to share today’s post with you — because it’s a guest post I requested from a loyal reader.

Dallas, from Day-by-Day Masterpiece, has taken a one-year challenge to perform random acts of kindness each week. I think this idea is awesome… and today, Dalas is sharing a few really simple (and free) random acts of kindness we can all do in the coming week.

My Christmas Gift to Myself

I don’t know about you, but I like to give myself a Christmas and birthday gift 🙂 This year, the gift I gave myself was a super comfy and soft Michigan Home t-shirt from the Home. T Company.

They have many other states available, and a portion of each sale helps support research for Multiple Sclerosis. Wouldn’t these also make a fun graduation gift?

Are You Guilted into Giving?

It seems like almost every week we get asked to give some type of donation to a charitable cause, non-profit organization, school fundraiser, church event, etc. etc. Of course, all of these requests are for wonderful organizations that really DO need donations.

I feel guilty for saying no, but Dave and I just can’t say yes to every request. If you’ve ever felt guilty for saying no to a request for money, or if you’ve ever given out of guilt, I might have a “solution” for you…

Taking the Time to Say Thanks

posted by Andrea | 08/10/2011 | 10 comments

If you or anyone else in your family has recently had a birthday, you probably exchanged a few gifts and heard “thank-you” after each gift was un-wrapped.  {If not, you might want to work on that!} Saying “thanks” is a pretty simple thing to do — however, it does take thought and effort on our part. And even though it just make sense to say “thank-you” after receiving a gift, hearing a nice compliment, or after an act of kindness; […]

The Season for Giving — 64 days and counting

I’ve been thinking a lot about clutter free gifts {again!} No, I’m not a scrooge and I don’t hate gifts — but I do hate all the needless clutter and overspending that seems to accompany every holiday season. Last year, Dave and I gave {and received} plenty of great gifts, but one thing we decided to give everyone on our list was a donation {made out in their name} to the Christian Reformed World Relief Committee {CRWRC}. We felt this was a great organization to […]
