22 Free Summer Activities for Kids

posted by Andrea | 06/1/2011 | 9 comments

I was one of those weird kids who absolutely LOVED school — and I honestly did love everything about school! So even though I was always excited for summer vacation, I was already “bored” and ready to go back after a week or two {I think my mom was ready for that too}. I did play sports during the summer and we usually went on at least one family vacation, but for the rest of the time, my mom was “forced” […]

Berry Jams = ‘Berry’ Delicious

posted by Andrea | 09/27/2010 | 8 comments

Berries are my favorite foods to preserve each year. And I can’t think of a better way to preserve delicious sweet berries than homemade jams and jellies — can you? Not only are jams and jellies relatively quick and easy to master, they are also inexpensive to make, and far superior to any variety you can buy at your local store {if you’ve never had homemade jam, you’ll just have to trust me on this one!} Every year, I make […]

Great Zucchini and Squash Recipes

posted by Andrea | 08/20/2010 | 7 comments

I’ve been getting creative with zucchini and summer squash this week. Partially because there are so many great recipes out there — but mostly because we’ve been picking about 3 squash per plant {per day}!!! I’ve got a lot of squash on my hands {and on my counters, in my fridge, in the freezer, in the garden, and even out in the garage!} Often, when I get too overloaded with zucchini and sumer squash, I use a food processor to shred and […]

It’s the middle of July which means my vegetable garden is finally starting to look good — it always seems to take too long! My garden is very small this year but I’ve already picked herbs, rhubarb, beans, zucchini, summer squash…and the tomatoes starting. I don’t know about you, but I never get tired of cooking with produce I picked earlier in the day — it’s amazing to eat food that’s only a few hours old. However, this time of year […]

Mini Fruit Pies

I love pie. I love eating pie, I love making pie, I love nearly all vartities of pie! The only problem with pie is that the crust always seems to get soggy before we can eat it all — there are just 2 of us you know. So today — as I was contemplating whether or not I should make a pie (and knowing that my husband would definitly want me to make a pie) — I decided to try […]

Simple Summer Pleasures

We are fully into summer. Have you started enjoying it yet? I don’t know about you, but my summer always seems to fly by way too quickly. I love thinking about lazy summer days, even though in reality, life happens, and I feel so busy. Since we are already 2 weeks into July (and I suddenly realized that stores are stocking back-to-school supplies), I decided to make a short list of memories I want to make yet this summer. I […]

Make a Mid-Year Goal

posted by Andrea | 07/7/2010 | comment

There are lots of goals and resolutions made on the January 1. Did you make one this year? Yes, I know it’s July — but that doesn’t mean it’s too late to make a few new goals for the rest of the year. Personally, I feel that one of the most important goals you can make is to simplify and organize your life (but I’m bias!) The truth is, no matter what your goals are, I bet that organization is […]

Strawberry Lemonade

Strawberries are always a welcome reminder that summer is officially here. Every June, I spend a Saturday morning picking strawberries at a local farm…and they try to come up with recipes to use them all up! One of my favorite things to make is strawberry lemonade; and this recipe is the best one I’ve found so far. Strawberry Lemonade: Ingredients: ½ c. lemon juice (about 3 or 4 lemons) 4 c. water ¾ c. sugar ½ t. salt 1 c. […]
