My Tips to Cut Costs On Groceries

Even though I am most definitely NOT a coupon blog — I still get lots and lots of questions about how I’m able to get such good deals on groceries.

And while I probably will never go into meticulous detail about how and where I get all my coupons (I’m not a coupon blog for a reason!), here are a few things I do every week that help me save a bunch and keep our grocery budget to around $40 or less per week for 3 adults and one baby (and yes, that includes paper products, cleaning supplies, toiletries, baby items, etc.)

Weekend Giveaway: Spirit-Led Parenting Book {3 Winners}

posted by Andrea | 04/27/2012 | 125 comments

As many of you know, my first few months of motherhood have been quite rough. I’m the person who always follows the rules. I live by lists, bullet points, and step-by-step instructions. I’m overly annoyed when people show up late for meetings, or worse, completely forget about the meeting. I crave order, structure, and predictability. I ALWAYS have a plan.
Then I had Nora — and all that flew out the window!
If you’ve had a similar parenting experience, or if you are currently expecting your first baby… this book is one you might want to read!

I’ve never had a super fancy car… but I’ve always had a clutter-free car!

When I got my first car (’94 Grand Am), I can remember spending SO much time cleaning it and making sure every compartment was neatly organized. Ten years later (and a slightly newer car), I still love cleaning and organizing my car!

Today, I’m giving you a little peek inside my car and sharing a few really simple tips to keep it clutter-free!

Yup, that’s right — I’ve been a mom for 5 whole months now, and I’m already giving parenting advice πŸ™‚ Well…. not really.

After reading lots of books, watching movies, listening to audio books, going to a class, doing online research, and getting all sorts of advice from friends, relatives, coworkers, neighbors, and blog readers… I have one piece of advice EVERY parent should listen to…

Where Do You Keep Your Small Appliances?

posted by Andrea | 04/25/2012 | 32 comments

Dave and I have always kept our small kitchen appliances hidden — even the ones we use regularly. We’ve never had a kitchen with lots of counter space, I really like the look of a clutter-free kitchen, and our cabinets definitely were not overly full; so we just decided to keep our small appliances concealed behind closed doors.

As we prepare for our upcoming kitchen renovation, I’m trying to think of different ways to conceal our small appliances while still allowing easy access, so I’d love to know where you keep your small appliances.

My Favorite Low-Maintenance Perennials for Sun & Shade

posted by Andrea | 04/24/2012 | 25 comments

I learned so much about different plants during the 4 years we gardened at our old house. And now that we’re in our new house — with tons more land area — I’ve been itching to start doing a bunch of yard work.

However, while I love planting, I don’t love all the maintenance involved in taking care of my plants — especially now with a baby and all the other projects we’re working on INSIDE our home. So this year, I’m sticking to low-maintenance perennials… and these are a few of my favorites!

Nora @ 5 Months

That’s right friends… our babe is already 5 months old!

I feel like I’ve been writing these monthly updates on a WEEKLY basis, but maybe that’s just because I’ve been trying so hard to take lots and lots of pictures throughout the month!

Nora is growing like crazy and reached many milestones again this month… it’s still not all butterflies and roses, but we’re slowly starting to figure her out.

Oatmeal Caramel Bars

During our spring break staycation, I spent one afternoon in the kitchen baking up a storm. I filled an entire shelf in our deep freezer with baked goods… and of course, we ate a bunch too.

Most of the recipes I tried were brand new to me, and one of our favorites were these Oatmeal Caramel Bars. They are just so quick and easy, they taste delicious, and they make a REALLY big batch so there’s enough to eat now and plenty to put in the freezer.

Organization Should Be Practical, Not Always Pretty

I’m sure we’re all guilty of looking through home and garden magazines and wishing our homes, kitchens, closets, pantries, garages, etc. looked as amazing as the spaces in those magazine photos. Right? I know I am!

And while I’m simply ecstatic with the outcomes of our home renovations, I can’t help but compare them to those perfectly decorated spaces inside my favorite magazines. I do it without even realizing it. If you’ve struggled with this too, here are a few things to remember…

How to Clean and Sanitize Your Sponges

posted by Andrea | 04/17/2012 | 13 comments

I’ve always had mixed emotions about cleaning and re-using sponges… because they honestly kind of gross me out! However, since I’m always looking for ways to save a little cash (and help the environment) I figured I should try reusing them… but only if I felt like I could really clean and sanitize them.

So I did a little research, and came up with a three simple ways to clean and sanitize the different sponges you might have around your house.
