Summer is the season for weddings… and for anniversaries (at least in our families.) Dave and I celebrated 10 years in June, my parents celebrated 35 years in July, and Dave’s parents will celebrate 36 years later this month!
Nora loves flipping through our wedding album and trying to guess who is who 10 years later — and she recently saw this picture of Dave’s parents’ wedding and immediately pointed out that “Papa’s hair wasn’t white when he got married” 🙂
Speaking of Dave’s parents’ wedding anniversary, we decided to give them an early “anniversary-type gift” and finally digitize hundreds of old family pictures (something his mom has wanted to do for years) with the help of Legacybox.

When we got our photos back, I immediately copied everything to our portable hard drive before giving the box to Dave’s parents. Now we both have a digital copy of everything.

This little cutie is Dave, around 6 months old — do you see any resemblance with our kids?
These 2 pictures are Dave and his sister with their grandparents.
For some reason, this photo of Dave on his bike was one of my top favorites from the hundreds of pictures we digitized.
And this is the big red barn on his parent’s property back in Washington.
It was so fun for me to scroll through all of Dave’s family’s old pictures and hear some of the stories that went along with the photos!

I love seeing Dave’s old family photos. You’re right, that bike pic is a classic! It has just the right combo of colors, cuteness and not too awkward vintage fashion. I love the Washington apples T-shirt too, since I grew up in Washington state (live in Oregon now). I can’t believe how long I read your blog and didn’t realize Dave was from my home state until your recent post about him. Fun! That’s awesome! I love looking at family photos, especially old ones. It’s neat to see pictures of Dave as a child because I generally think the kids look more like you, but you can really see how much they resemble Dave too! In the picture of him on the bike, in particular, I can see Nora.
And that photo of the barn with the old gas pump – amazing! Love it!

I had kids before digital, so you can only imagine how many albums and videos I have! I had every intention on transferring them myself one day, but this looks like a great service and worth the money. Considering that my youngests (twins) are 18, I should stop believing I will ever get to it!
Do you like the quality and resolution they use? Do you know if they do any enhancements to the old pics and videos?

haha — you can always just start now and not worry about the pictures from the past. Even just moving forward, it might be fun to have a digital album — but yes, Legacybox can certainly help with any old photos you want to digitize 🙂
as for the quality and resolution — I was happy with it, but I don’t think they do any enhancements. So if your photos are really blurry or faded, they will still be blurry and faded once they are digital. Hope this helps!

They have different size packages — so you would need to know ROUGHLY how many you want — their biggest box is up to 500 pictures or slides, but when the box arrives, they offer additional labels for 50% off, so you can add on a couple hundred more pictures once the box arrives if you have more than you originally thought.

Nora and James have his eyes and Simon definitely has his face shape. His genes are strong! Love the pic of him on his bike….so cute! Of course, your genes are strong as well…Simon’s eyes! I love old family photos. It feels good to look at ancestors and see resemblances. 🙂
