I know, I know — there’s still a whole month of Summer left — but I’ve decided to take a blogging break for most of the month of August. So for me and for my blog, the last month of Summer should be pretty quiet (and yes, I’m super excited!)
In the past, I’ve always taken a 2-week break at some point during the Summer… and I realize a whole month seems like a really long time, but Dave get’s 11 weeks off 🙂
In all seriousness, I probably won’t be completely silent for the entire month — but I’m giving myself permission to be silent if I want to.
There’s a chance I’ll post here and there if something comes up and I can’t wait until September to share it with you. It will just be much more relaxed, less structured, and less scheduled. I’ll also still be chattering away on Facebook, so you can head over there if you have Nora withdrawal.
Eight weeks ago, I posted about my goal to “slow down summer”… and today, with only 3-4 weeks left, I find myself feeling a bit breathless from everything we’ve been doing so far and everything we still want to do.
Not necessarily breathless in a BAD way (you know I like to be busy). But since I’m fairly certain that in 5 years I will NOT look back on August of 2013 and be super disappointed that I didn’t publish a new blog post every single weekday, I’m giving myself the freedom to take a short break, wrap up a bunch of projects we’ve already started, cross a few more things off my Summer to-do list, and just sit back and enjoy the last few fleeting weeks of Summer with Dave at home.
Sound good?
It does to me!
So while Dave and I finish up our landscape and snazzy new garage makeover (seriously, I can’t wait to show you the ‘after’ pictures of both!) and while Nora gets spoiled with nearly undivided attention from BOTH her parents for the next month, may I suggest a few of my favorite posts for your reading pleasure?
3 simple concepts to simplify your life
All of my posts about freezer cooking
It’s not rocket science, it’s real life
Simplify family life with traditions
Nora’s personalized Alphabet book
EST: 3 letters that can sabotage simple living
The time our home was featured in HGTV magazine!
10 excuses we make to keep our clutter
And if that’s not enough, you can comb through my entire blog archive or peruse the many different categories I’ve written on over the years.
Have a wonderful last month of Summer break friends. I’ll see you back here in September for sure!

Aren’t we all stalking just in case? Yep, even after a month we are still addicted ๐

I feel like I am stalking your website. I still come over and look to see if you posted anything even thought I know you are taking time off. I am having some withdrawals I will admit. Hope you are enjoying your time off. ๐

I with Michele. I keep checking just to see if maybe…….. But I am so excited to see what you have to share with us next month. Hopefully some of your yard projects will have come to fruition. I actually thought of you this weekend, (not in any kind of weird stalker way mind you ๐ ) We are in the planning stages of a kitchen makeover and I thought of all those posts of how long it was taking, and then the finished project. So I may look back on those archives when I need to remember there is always an end. Hope you are enjoying the time with your family. So very important

I keep checking to see if you *might* have posted something this month. Miss hearing from you! Hope you are having a wonderful, refreshing and productive (I put that in because I know you won’t be sitting still for long) time with those you love. Looking forward to when you get back.

I think it was an excellent choice to take your month off – just wanted you to know you are missed! Today I thought, “hey, I haven’t gotten any posts in awhile” before I remembered you’re taking a break. Looking forward to new posts in September. Hope you enjoy this time! ๐

Enjoy your “time off,” even though you’ll probably end up busier than before. Lol. On a weird side note, I had a dream the other night that my boys and I met you and Nora at your house. I suggested you put a splash pad for Nora in a concrete area. Ha! No worries, I do not know where you live! Lol:) Enjoy the rest of summer!
Andrea says
haha — that sounds like a fun dream, and I’m sure Nora would LOVE a splash pad in our yard!

Can’t wait to catch up your past posts and I look forward to September because I will certainly be going through withdrawals!

Well there’s A LOT of stuff packed away in the Archives — maybe you need to set a timer! haha!

Have fun and enjoy! Summers, to me, don’t feel like summer anymore because they are filled with so many commitments, reunions, parties, etc. I know that is a big part of the fun, but sometimes I feel that my schedule is controlled by others. Add four teens into the mix and my head is constantly swirling with plans, schedules, etc. Summers, for me as a kid, was a time for freedom, swimming, biking, and being bored…. I am certainly not bored these days! Kudos for stepping away!

I am right there with you. We also have four ages 14-22 and it was SO much easier and relaxed when they were younger. We now work around volunteer commitments, marching band rehearsals, work schedules, college packing and moving our oldest out to Seattle at the end of the summer for her real “big girl job”. My husband is a teacher too so we always had all of us home all summer. Just so packed now though. We did manage a 10 day family trip, though ๐ enjoy a lazier August, Andrea.
Debby says
I’ll try not to have too much withdrawal ๐ Enjoy your family and projects. Can’t wait to see before and after pics.

Oh my word – me too! I nearly choked when I read she’s taking the whole month off. What will I do without her?!?
Enjoy your time, Andrea. You’ve deserved it. ๐
