The Floor Plan for our New Kitchen!

posted by Andrea | 05/31/2012 | 50 comments

As many of you know, Dave and I are gearing up for a really messy kitchen renovation this summer.

I’ve been doing quite a bit of “behind the scenes” work these past few weeks… the bulk of which was designing the floor plan. It’s still not 100% set in stone, but as you’ll see by the images below, we’re adding a TON of cabinet space and creating a much more open and user-friendly place to cook, eat, and just hangout.

I wrote a bunch of guest posts this month and included a few of my favorites right here. If you’re looking to simplify your summer schedule or add hours to your day, I’ve got several tips to share.

I’m also talking about the pros and cons of working as a virtual assistant, as well as how listening to music can actually help you be MORE productive!

Creamy Chicken Packets

Creamy chicken packets were one of my favorite weeknight meals growing up — mainly because I loved anything with chicken, but also because I absolutely LOVE crescent roll dough.

I got this recipe from my mom, but she got it from a school cookbook… so you know it has to be quick, easy, and something real families will eat!

Why I’m Not Printing Photos Anymore

posted by Andrea | 05/29/2012 | 36 comments

For the past year, I’ve been on a mission to take more pictures — and as you can probably tell from all the pictures of Nora, I’ve been doing a pretty good job!

However, I’m still failing miserably at my goal to actually print off and display my photos. So after thinking about it for awhile, I’ve decided that I’m no longer going to print pictures… come read my reasons why!

8 Creative Uses for “Flat” Soda

posted by Andrea | 05/28/2012 | 13 comments

This time of year, 2 lt. bottles go on sale for as low as $0.79 and I often have $0.75 off coupons… which means I can get multiple 2 lt. bottles for ALMOST free. And even though it’s definitely NOT a health food, I try to have a variety of flavors on hand for last-minute BBQ’s or family gatherings.

However, I just hate when we end up with several half-empty bottles… If you share my frustration, here are a bunch of creative ways you can reuse your flat soda/pop.

Are You Guilted into Giving?

posted by Andrea | 05/26/2012 | 19 comments

It seems like almost every week we get asked to give some type of donation to a charitable cause, non-profit organization, school fundraiser, church event, etc. etc. Of course, all of these requests are for wonderful organizations that really DO need donations.

I feel guilty for saying no, but Dave and I just can’t say yes to every request. If you’ve ever felt guilty for saying no to a request for money, or if you’ve ever given out of guilt, I might have a “solution” for you…

Three Kid-Friendly Foods… for Adults!

posted by Andrea | 05/24/2012 | 12 comments

The other day, I was talking with some of my friends who have really picky eaters. Because of this, they choose to make multiple meals in order to please everyone.

So since I like to keep things simple (and I definitely don’t want to cook 2 meals if I don’t have to) here are three super popular kids meals that should also please the adults in your home!

Different Uses for Sample-Size Products

posted by Andrea | 05/23/2012 | 13 comments

Over the years, I’ve been known to stock-up on sample-size products. I just love the small sizes… and the fact that I get all of them completely free!

Last week I showed you how I created free first aid kits for our vehicles using sample-size products; however, a first aid kit isn’t the only use for sample-size products.

Nora @ 6 Months

posted by Andrea | 05/22/2012 | 26 comments

Seriously! 6 months already! Nora is getting so big, and you know what… I LOVE it!

I’ve never been a huge baby person and I just can’t wait for Nora to start crawling, walking, talking, and growing into a cute, chubby toddler. I suppose that when all my children are grown, I’ll look back and regret wishing them through the newborn phase of life… but right now, I couldn’t be happier!

Two years ago I got the “crazy” idea to start a blog about simple organized living… and after about 4 months of hashing out design details, was born in September of 2010.

I can hardly believe that over 2 million people have visited — and since you’re one of those people, I’d love to know how you’ve benefited from my blog!

My “Sample Size” First-Aid Kit

posted by Andrea | 05/17/2012 | 17 comments

A few weeks ago, I shared how I keep our car clean and organized. And after I published that post, I received several comments and emails suggesting that I add a first aid kit to our vehicles… especially now that we have a baby.

I figured that was probably some good advice, so I got creative and turned an old diaper wipes container and a bunch of our extra sample size products into first aid kits for both of our vehicles.

How I Organize My Weekly Blog Posts

posted by Andrea | 05/16/2012 | 39 comments

I write anywhere from 7-14 posts each week — both for my own blog, as a contributor for several other blogs… so I definitely need to have a “plan” in place to assure that I don’t duplicate topics, miss deadlines, or run out of things to say {although, I think Dave would tell you that’s impossible!}

And since a few of you have asked how I manage all these posts, I figured maybe I should share “my plan” with you!

What are You Saving For?

posted by Andrea | 05/15/2012 | 17 comments

I LOVE saving money on everything from groceries and gas to our vehicles and house — partially because it’s a game for me, but also because we pay for everything we purchase in full (besides our house) so in order to do home renovations, go on vacation, or buy a new vehicle, we need to save.

Today I’m sharing a few of the things we’re saving up for… and how we’re doing it!

I’m sure you can imagine the number of emails I receive asking for advice on the best ways to design a closet. Yeah… it’s a lot!
