After having 3 children with VERY different personalities, all in different seasons of the year, and experiencing both genders, here are a handful of items I wish I would have had from the very beginning.
Over the past 5 years, I have shared several posts about the planners I have used… but I don’t think I’ve ever shared exactly HOW I use my planner, or why this method works so well for me.
Obviously, I don’t expect my method to be the perfect system for everyone else. However, maybe what works for me will spark a few new ideas that will work better for you!

Just over 3 years ago, I shared a post about how we sort, purge, organize, and store our various toys. As you can imagine, A LOT has changed around our house since then — including how we store and organize our growing number of toys.
Today I’m sharing how we store and organize all our various toys, books, games, crafts, and other kid items.
Although I didn’t have as much time to work on “extra” projects as I would have liked, there are still quite a few updates from the Dekkers.
For starters, by the end of the week, we’ll have a 4 month old and a 4 year old in our house (yes, Simon is here too!). We also made lots of progress on our new shed — and I put squash in almost every meal I made 🙂
If I had my way, I would have a completely uninterrupted afternoon each week to clean my whole house. However, since that’s not really possible right now, I do the next best thing and clean WITH my kids.

Exactly 2 months ago, I shared our progress on the kids’ bathroom upstairs… and although we finished this mini renovation well before James arrived, I’m finally getting around to sharing the before and after pictures now.
I don’t want to blow the surprise, but I will say that it’s much less “neon” now 🙂
Thanks to the fact that our little 1-acre, 125-year-old farmhouse is SMACK in the middle of a small town, the kiddos and I can walk almost any place we want or need to go on a given day. And thanks to one of our newest pieces of outdoor “gear” we’ve been getting out and about even more!

Every year, around this time, I start seeing blog posts, news articles, and social media posts that rant and rave about how “spoiled” our kids are and how they apparently expect to be entertained 24/7.
While I fully agree that this generation of children is being raised in a completely different way than I was raised (or any other generation), I often wonder if that’s really as bad as people say… and I’d love to hear your thoughts on this topic as well!
No, we’re not completely finished with everything on our “summer to-do list” but we have been making REALLY good progress over the past 10-12 weeks!
Although I can’t share all the official “after” photos just yet (because we’re not quite finished) I CAN share a whole bunch of “progress” photos so we can celebrate how far we’ve come in only a few weeks!
