Our New Farmhouse Half Bath! (Before + After)

posted by Andrea | 09/11/2018 | 34 comments

Come tour our newly-renovated half bathroom off the kitchen… yes, it’s FINALLY finished after many so delays!

We are all SO thrilled with how everything turned out! Not only is it much more private, it also feels huge compared to the previously very cramped laundry room, and it fits in with the rest of our farmhouse decor!

Bathroom Update: Phase 2 is (Almost) Complete!

posted by Andrea | 08/31/2018 | 31 comments

Although it took significantly longer than we anticipated, we are essentially finished with phase 2 of our 3-phase bathroom/laundry room renovation, and our new half bathroom is now usable!

I’m extremely happy with how the room is coming together so far, and although I still have several finishing touches to add, I wanted to share our progress on the blog today!

Our “New” Basement Laundry Area (plus free laundry goodies!)

posted by Andrea | 06/26/2018 | 25 comments

Dave and I are currently in the process of renovating our laundry room and bathroom. The first part of this project was to reconstruct a little laundry space in our basement so we wouldn’t be without a washer and dryer ALL summer long!

Our new laundry area is NOT glamorous, it’s NOT Pinterest worthy, and it’s really NOT even all that cute. However, it IS functional and (much to my surprise) it’s actually quite practical for our family’s current laundry needs!

Our 3-Phase Bathroom + Laundry Room Renovation

posted by Andrea | 06/13/2018 | 29 comments

A couple months ago, I asked for any brilliant ideas and/or opinions about how we should renovate the full bathroom off our kitchen — and wow, did you respond!

SOOOOOO many fantastic ideas, suggestions, opinions, etc. Dave and I actually went back to the “drawing board” and ultimately ended up changing our plans for this space, thanks in large part to some of your suggestions! Today I’m sharing the “official” 3-phase plan!

What Should We Do In Our Bathroom?

posted by Andrea | 04/13/2018 | 132 comments

After over 7 years living in our farmhouse, we are FINALLY going to tackle one of the rooms I wanted to renovate many years ago — the bathroom off our kitchen. However, we still aren’t 100% sure what we want to do with this space.

So… since you have given us really great renovation ideas in the past, I’m bringing our bathroom quandary to the blog as one last “Hail Mary” effort to see if any of you have a super fantastic idea we haven’t thought of yet!

How We Think Through and Execute our Many Home Projects

posted by Andrea | 09/11/2017 | 1 comment

I often get questions about how we do so many house projects, how we meet our deadlines, and how we do it all without going crazy or filing for divorce!

We might be crazy (in a good way) to do everything we do, but we really do enjoy the whole process! Today, I’m sharing the steps we take when thinking through and executing our many home projects.

Why We DON’T Budget for House Projects

posted by Andrea | 07/21/2017 | 27 comments

Over the last 6.5 years, Dave and I have spent a considerable amount of money fixing up, renovating, remodeling, and decorating our home… and since I share the renovations on my blog, I’m regularly asked how we budget and plan for all our home projects.

I’m guessing many of you would be shocked to know that Dave and I actually DON’T budget for house projects… that’s what I’m talking about today!

A Tour of Nora’s New Bedroom

posted by Andrea | 07/12/2017 | 26 comments

Yay — I’m so excited to finally share the full tour of Nora’s brand new bedroom!!

This room was a labor of love. It was such a huge project that started with a complete gut job — new electrical, new insulation, new drywall, new doors and windows, new… EVERYTHING!

Home Renovations and Newborns

posted by Andrea | 07/10/2017 | 17 comments

After 6.5 years of continual house projects, pregnancies, and newborns, Dave and I will both say that all our house projects and all our babies have required more work, time, patience, and energy than we originally envisioned… but both the house projects AND the babies have most definitely been worth it all!

In fact, as I thought more about it, I realized that home renovations and newborns surprisingly have many similarities!

A Nice Change of Pace

posted by Andrea | 06/5/2017 | 10 comments

Although I love schedules, I thrive off regular routines, and I really enjoy finishing up a big project, there is just something to be said for tossing the to-do list every once in awhile! Don’t you think?

Today I’m sharing how our long Memorial Day weekend turned into just the right “change of pace” we needed to take a break from construction and focus on other things.

How We Keep Our Construction Mess to a Minimum

posted by Andrea | 05/8/2017 | 14 comments

I’m often asked how we contain our construction messes and prevent them from traveling into every other space in our house (especially since we have always lived in our house during our renovations).

And since we’re currently in the middle of a VERY messy house project, I thought this would be a perfect time to share how we keep our construction mess to a minimum!

Why We Didn’t Build A True “Master Bath”

posted by Andrea | 02/20/2017 | 24 comments

Over the past 6 years of sharing various home renovations, I have been asked SO many questions about Dave and my bathroom, and (more specifically) why we didn’t re-work our plans to create a true en suite with the master bath directly off our master bedroom.

Today, I’m sharing the main reasons we chose to keep our bathroom separate from our bedroom.

The Kid’s Bathroom {Before and After}

posted by Andrea | 08/19/2015 | 33 comments

Exactly 2 months ago, I shared our progress on the kids’ bathroom upstairs… and although we finished this mini renovation well before James arrived, I’m finally getting around to sharing the before and after pictures now.

I don’t want to blow the surprise, but I will say that it’s much less “neon” now 🙂

Celebrating… House and Yard Progress!

posted by Andrea | 06/17/2015 | 29 comments

No, we’re not completely finished with everything on our “summer to-do list” but we have been making REALLY good progress over the past 10-12 weeks!

Although I can’t share all the official “after” photos just yet (because we’re not quite finished) I CAN share a whole bunch of “progress” photos so we can celebrate how far we’ve come in only a few weeks!

Big News from the Dekkers: We Have a…. Bathtub!

posted by Andrea | 06/8/2015 | 27 comments

No, no baby yet… but at this point, a new bathtub is almost as big of an announcement for us!

After 4.5 years of living in our 3-bathroom house, we finally have a “real bathtub” for our kiddos to splash around in… and yes, they totally love it!

It’s Project Season… Here’s what we’ve been up to!

posted by Andrea | 05/13/2015 | 16 comments

The last 2 weeks have been a crazy whirlwind of hustle and bustle around the Dekker house as we have officially kicked off our 2015 “project season”.

It’s a bit earlier than we normally start working on projects, but with a new baby due around the end of June / early July, we felt the need to start early. Today, I’m sharing our plans (and some of our progress)!
