posted by Andrea | 03/28/2019 | 10 comments

Every week, I get emails asking me to share more about what our normal daily life looks like.

I’ve shared these types of posts in the past, but they get outdated so quickly that I decided it was time for an updated look at what a fairly “normal” weekday looks like in the Dekker home!

An Update on My Calendar + Planner System

posted by Andrea | 03/22/2019 | 53 comments

Back in November, I shared my new Calendar + Planner approach to the New Year.

I honestly wasn’t exactly sure how well this Calendar + Planner system would (or wouldn’t) work for me, my family, my routine, etc. but I knew I wanted to give it a shot! Now, 3 months after using this system on a daily (sometimes hourly!) basis, I have a short list of pros and cons to share!

How I Drink At Least 100 Ounces of Water Every Day

posted by Andrea | 03/5/2019 | 34 comments

After Nora was born, I realized many negative health “issues” I was experiencing were due to simply not drinking nearly enough water. So for the past 7 years, I have made it my goal to drink large amounts of water every single day as a cheap, easy, calorie-free way to improve my overall health.

Today I’m sharing how I make sure I drink at least 100 ounces of water every single day!

Know What You Don’t Want (A Story of How Our Family Almost Had a TV Show!)

posted by Andrea | 02/26/2019 | 14 comments

A few years ago, I was contacted by a TV network who apparently wanted to feature our family in an upcoming TV show… believe it or not, I told them “no thanks”.

Today I’m sharing why I said “no”… as well as why I feel it’s so important to know what we DON’T want for our lives, our families, our schedules, etc.

Non-Book Library Loans: It’s Amazing Everything Libraries Offer!

posted by Andrea | 02/15/2019 | 43 comments

Our family visits the library at least once a week — often checking out 30-50 books at a time! However, we also use our library card for so many other things besides books — and yes, they are all free!

Today, I’m sharing an incomplete list of NON-BOOK items we can check out from our library at no cost!

9 Tips for Working Parents to Make the Most of Their Time at Home

posted by Andrea | 02/12/2019 | 42 comments

While I know my own life experience doesn’t qualify me as an “expert” on today’s topic, I have worked with enough busy families and working parents to come up with a fairly long list of tips, ideas, and suggestions.

If you work outside the home and struggle to find enough hours in your day to keep your home (and life) in order, I hope today’s post will help!

What Are You Content With Right Now?

Oh the gloriousness of a fresh new year… a blank slate! So many goals, resolutions, and aspirations… so many things we want to change.

However, before we get too carried away making all sorts of changes and “improvements”, I’d like to encourage you to stop and note at least 5 things you are currently very content with.

A Peek Into Our Christmas Break

I hope you all enjoyed some part of your holiday season — even if it’s just the fact that the holidays are now over and won’t be back again for 11 months (no shame!!)

Today is our family’s first day back at school after a super fantastic 2-week-long Christmas break — I’m sharing more about our Christmas break in today’s post!

When Life Needs to Be Crazy for a Bit

Obviously, I’m a huge advocate for simple-living. HOWEVER, I also know there must often be times of busyness, stress, frustration, and “too much” in order to reach a goal, meet a deadline, or get where you want to go in life.

If you’re in a season of extra busyness, but you feel like it’s the right thing for you at this point in your life — I hope today’s post will offer some encouragement and motivation to push forward!

How “Worst-Case-Scenario” Thinking Propels Me Forward

posted by Andrea | 12/13/2018 | 9 comments

Have you ever wondered something like, Can I freeze this food?, Can I swap these ingredients?, Would this style flatter my figure?, Will this product work for my home?, etc.?

If you sometimes feel paralyzed by indecisiveness or even just unsure of what to do in various situations, give my worst-case-scenario approach a try. I have a feeling it will liberate you and help you move forward in so many areas of life!

3 Tips to Arrive On Time (or early) With Young Children

posted by Andrea | 11/2/2018 | 57 comments

As I was talking with friends the other day, something they mentioned sparked an in-depth conversation about the things Dave and I do to help us get out the door and to our destination on time (often early) even with our children in tow.

My 3 tips really aren’t all that revolutionary — however, they are simple tactics we can all implement into our daily lives… and they work! If you struggle to arrive on time, try my tips and see if they help!

Fun Conversations Starters (for adults, kids, introverts, and anyone else!)

posted by Andrea | 10/26/2018 | 12 comments

As self-proclaimed introverts, Dave and I are not much for small-talk. We can manage boring small-talk conversations just fine, and I certainly wouldn’t ever consider us to be “socially awkward”.

That said, with the holiday party season just around the corner, I thought it might be fun to come up with a list of Fun Conversation Starters for anyone who would rather not discuss the weather or work with every new person they encounter! I also have a great list of 20 conversation starters for kids!

How I Practice Self-Care Every Single Day

posted by Andrea | 10/10/2018 | 31 comments

For a very long time, I had the underlying impression that “self-care” was a LUXURY or an EXTRAVAGANT INDULGENCE… definitely not something the average person could achieve on any sort of regular basis.

Now, many years later, my thoughts and perceptions have changed, and I practice self-care on a daily basis…. I’m sharing SO much more on this in today’s post!
