A Life of Moderation (home, food, technology, life)

posted by Andrea | 08/20/2018 | 2 comments

As part of my summer blogging break, I’m sharing a week of “compilation posts” where I compile all the information I’ve shared on a specific topic into one post for easy reference.

I have a fun line-up of compilation posts planned for the rest of the week, but I wanted to kick off the week with the topic of moderation — especially considering it’s one of the main simple-living principles that guides the course of my entire life!

A Peek Into Our Week (the last days of summer)

posted by Andrea | 08/13/2018 | 19 comments

It’s official… summer is basically over as Dave heads back to school for meetings THIS WEEK!

Nora still has 2 more weeks before she starts school, and Simon doesn’t start preschool until the middle of September — today I’m sharing what we did in our last full week home together during summer break!

Simple Ways I Reduce Decision Fatigue

posted by Andrea | 08/9/2018 | 17 comments

As someone who leans towards the introverted side of the spectrum and cares for 4 young children every day, making extra decisions is one thing I try to do as little of as possible as it easily drains my energy and my patience (both of which are often in short supply these days!)

Today I’m sharing a few simple ways I reduce decision fatigue.

Focus On What You Already Do Well

posted by Andrea | 08/3/2018 | 33 comments

Something I’ve been thinking quite a bit about over the past few months is how we (essentially all humans) naturally seem to focus on all the things others do better than us, instead of feeling satisfied with what we already do well.

Today I’m sharing a few examples from my own life… as well as some encouragement to pause and consider all the things you currently do really well (your list is probably longer than you think!)

A Peek Into Our Week

It’s July… so I’m claiming it’s still “mid summer” even though I know the reality of school is only a couple weeks away.

We still have a handful of things we’d like to do yet this summer, but we’ve made a sizable dent in our Summer Fun List already! I’m sharing more about what we’ve been up to in today’s post!

My ‘Don’t-Do List’

posted by Andrea | 07/19/2018 | 57 comments

You know how much I love lists… right? Well, I don’t literally have a “don’t-do list”, but I do have a mental list of things that I’ve specifically chosen NOT to spend my time on.

Obviously my list will be different than yours… but if you’ve never tried making a don’t-do list before, I have a feeling you will benefit from it.

A Peek Into Our Week

Nora finished gymnastics last week and has soccer camp next week, Simon has perfected the art of drawing “blob people”, James is all about puzzles, and Clara just can’t get enough watermelon. Dave and I are enjoying our slow summer, watching some Netflix, eating so much good food, and probably going to bed way too late!

Come check out what we’ve been up to, what we’re watching, reading, eating, doing, and more in today’s Peek Into Our Week post!

How I Use My Early Morning Quiet Hours

posted by Andrea | 07/6/2018 | 25 comments

Since our kids are all in bed around 7:00pm every night, and since they all (usually) sleep through the night, I’m getting really good sleep, which means I can finally get back to waking up early again!

It might sound like an over-exaggeration, but every single aspect of my day runs smoother when I wake up early — I’m sharing more about how I use these early morning hours today!

How I Find Quiet Time with 4 Kids

posted by Andrea | 06/15/2018 | 30 comments

In general, I like my environment to be very quiet… which, I suppose, is somewhat laughable considering I’m a stay-at-home-mom of 4 little children!

Nevertheless, I regularly find ways to meet my “quiet time quota” each day — which makes for a much happier mama and a much more enjoyable day for everyone! Today, I’m sharing a few ways I find a fair amount of quiet time every day… even with 4 kids!

A Peek Into Our Week (Summer Vacation!)

It’s officially Summer Vacation for the Dekker family, and we started off with a week FULL of fun (and a decent amount of work too!)

Today I’m sharing updates on our bathroom renovation process (yay!), my tentative summer blogging plan, our super simple menu, and a bunch of pictures of what we’ve been up to lately.

How Food Prep Positively Impacts Almost Every Aspect Of My Life

posted by Andrea | 05/29/2018 | 21 comments

I’ve always known food prep was an important piece of the puzzle for my simplified, organized lifestyle; however, it really hasn’t been until the last 9 months of my life that I truly started to realize just how much my entire life “falls apart” when I slack on food prep.

This knowledge is more than enough for me to continue my not-so-loved task of food prep… as you’ll read in today’s post, it really does positively impact almost every area of my life!

Happy Memorial Day… a walk down memory lane!

Happy Memorial Day!

I often like to do something different for holiday posts — so today, I’m linking back to several posts I think might be fun to read (or reread) over your long holiday weekend. I’m also taking a mini walk down memory lane and sharing a handful of photos from my family and my yard — it’s crazy how much the plants AND the kiddos have grown!

How I Create More Time, More Simplicity, and More Peace

Over the last 6+ year of being a parent, I have learned how to have more balance in my life, I’ve given myself more grace, and as a result, I have a lot more fun!

If you’re looking for a few relatively simple practices to help YOU create more time in your schedule, more simplicity in your home, and more peace in your life, I hope that sharing what works for me might also help you!

When (Some) Busyness Leads to (Mostly) Simple

posted by Andrea | 05/17/2018 | 21 comments

Over the years, I have shared many of tips and tricks for simple living, decluttering, time management, and organization. I’ve also made it very clear that simple living is not always EASY. It requires hard work, dedication, and perseverance — trusting that those busy periods of life will eventually lead to simpler times.

Are you in a very busy period of life? If so, don’t feel guilty or like you’re doing everything wrong. Read today’s post and hopefully breathe a sigh of relief!

Don’t Take It For Granted

posted by Andrea | 05/11/2018 | 20 comments

As the little girl who ALWAYS dreamed of the day I would move into my very own home, I certainly underestimated how much work it would be to care for a home and yard — not to mention the amount of effort required to care for the family who now lives in the home and plays in the yard!

Some days, it feels downright impossible to fit everything in… but today (and moving forward) my goal is simply not to take any of it for granted.

My Month-Long Aldi Shopping Experiment

posted by Andrea | 05/7/2018 | 68 comments

Anyone who has read my blog for any amount of time knows my undying devotion to Meijer grocery stores… as well as the fact that I’ve never been a huge fan of Aldi grocery stores.

However, I finally decided to give Aldi a shot with a self-imposed one-month challenge to do as much of my grocery shopping at Aldi as I possibly could… today, I’m sharing the results!

Sustainable Change Happens Slowly

If you want to see a change in any part of your life, you MUST give it time while you continually work at it.

Slow and steady really DOES win the race (at least when it comes to sustainable changes!) Let me share several examples from my own life.
