Don’t Cause Your Own Chaos

posted by Andrea | 05/6/2019 | 21 comments

A couple weeks ago, I had an extremely busy week… one day in particular was especially packed full. I woke up with my mind already swirling as I mentally tried to rearrange the day in attempts to fit all the pieces of the puzzle together.

I knew I couldn’t fit everything in, I knew I would end up stressed out and grumpy if I tried, and I knew I would look back on this day and regret it if I didn’t make a change… today I’m sharing the CHOICES I made to eliminate potential chaos from my day.

Are Your Goals a Priority?

We’re already one-third of the way into the year, and if you’re anything like me, you’ve probably thought about the various goals you set for yourself at the beginning of the year.

How are you doing with those goals? If you feel like you haven’t made any progress over the last 4 months, I can almost guarantee it’s because of one thing…

Over the years, I have learned one super simple, super frugal, quick fix for faulty technology that has worked over and over and over again for me…

It might not work for every tech issue you encounter — but considering it’s completely free, super easy to do, and only takes a few seconds, it’s probably worth a shot the next time you experience an issue with your technology!

When, Where, and How I Fit Work Into My Life

posted by Andrea | 04/15/2019 | 23 comments

I haven’t talked much about my work life lately — mainly because I just haven’t been working as much as I used to. I’m far from the budding entrepreneur I once aspired to be… but I still thoroughly enjoy sharing my thoughts in a tiny corner of the internet while enjoying home life with my family.

Today, I’m sharing a little bit more about when, where, and how I fit working into my daily life!

Our Current Weekday Routine (Spring 2019 edition)

Every week, I get emails asking me to share more about what our normal daily life looks like.

I’ve shared these types of posts in the past, but they get outdated so quickly that I decided it was time for an updated look at what a fairly “normal” weekday looks like in the Dekker home!

An Update on My Calendar + Planner System

posted by Andrea | 03/22/2019 | 53 comments

Back in November, I shared my new Calendar + Planner approach to the New Year.

I honestly wasn’t exactly sure how well this Calendar + Planner system would (or wouldn’t) work for me, my family, my routine, etc. but I knew I wanted to give it a shot! Now, 3 months after using this system on a daily (sometimes hourly!) basis, I have a short list of pros and cons to share!

Know What You Don’t Want (A Story of How Our Family Almost Had a TV Show!)

posted by Andrea | 02/26/2019 | 14 comments

A few years ago, I was contacted by a TV network who apparently wanted to feature our family in an upcoming TV show… believe it or not, I told them “no thanks”.

Today I’m sharing why I said “no”… as well as why I feel it’s so important to know what we DON’T want for our lives, our families, our schedules, etc.

Encouragement: When Your Goals Seem So Far Away

posted by Andrea | 02/22/2019 | 18 comments

Since I write from the perspective of “this is what works for me…” I usually don’t share anything online until I know it’s successful. I quickly summarize the process, neatly outline the various steps, show a handful of pictures, answer questions in the comments, and then move on to the next day’s post.

In this process, one thing that doesn’t always get spotlighted is the fact that most of the projects, ideas, recipes, tips, tools, skills, goals, etc. I write about are YEARS in the making! I’m sharing more on this today…

Yes, You Can Learn To Be More Productive!

For as much of my life as I can remember, I have been highly motivated by productivity — I think I was just born this way! That said, even if you weren’t born with super “productive powers”, I believe you can LEARN to be more productive IF you’re willing to invest a little time and effort.

If you’re ready to jump-start your productivity, eliminate wasted time, and stop procrastinating, I have the perfect resource for you!

Goals and Dreams: 2 Decades in the Making!

posted by Andrea | 02/7/2019 | 18 comments

Over 2 decades ago (back in middle school) I decided on a few goals and dreams for my “someday adult life”.

Now, 20+ years later, I realized that after years and years of thinking about and working towards those goals and dreams, I’ve actually been able to see them come to fruition in my own life!

Save Time, Energy, and Sanity by Dropping Tasks

posted by Andrea | 01/30/2019 | 13 comments

While we technically cannot “make more time”, we CAN pick and choose many of the activities, tasks, events, and to-dos we spend our hours on each day (and the activities we DON’T spend our hours on).

My question for you… What activities could you DROP to give your schedule a little breathing room?

My Simple and Effective Way to Get Started On Any Project

I know what it feels like to be “too busy”, to have more to-do list than time, and to procrastinate on various projects because they feel too overwhelming.

Fortunately, I have a super simple (yet very effective) motivator that seems to work almost every time I feel procrastination setting in. I’m sharing more in today’s post!

Two of My Favorite Benefits of Good Time Management

posted by Andrea | 01/15/2019 | 17 comments

I talk a lot about time management and productivity on the blog, and that’s because it IS important to me — but NOT just so I can “do more”.

In fact, as the years go by, I’ve realized that simply “doing more” is rarely the reason I strive to better manage my time. Of course, it’s always nice to accomplish more in less time… but my favorite benefits of good time management are quite different.

My 2019 Healthier Habit: Cooking, Grinding, and Baking With Whole Grains!

For the past several years, I’ve chosen one or two smallish “Healthier Habits” to incorporate into my life and my family’s life — they’ve all stuck because I took my time to implement them and didn’t try to change everything at once.

Today I’m sharing more about my “healthier habit” for 2019 — cooking, grinding, and baking with whole grains!

How I Set Myself Up For Success Each Day

posted by Andrea | 01/2/2019 | 27 comments

On an average day, I accomplish more by 8am then I do for the rest of the day. Part of the reason for this is because I wake up early, but another huge factor in my morning productivity is that I plan ahead to set my mornings up for success.

Even if you’re not a morning person, the concepts in this post can be applied to your life to help you make the best use out of YOUR most productive hours of the day!

When Life Needs to Be Crazy for a Bit

Obviously, I’m a huge advocate for simple-living. HOWEVER, I also know there must often be times of busyness, stress, frustration, and “too much” in order to reach a goal, meet a deadline, or get where you want to go in life.

If you’re in a season of extra busyness, but you feel like it’s the right thing for you at this point in your life — I hope today’s post will offer some encouragement and motivation to push forward!

How “Worst-Case-Scenario” Thinking Propels Me Forward

Have you ever wondered something like, Can I freeze this food?, Can I swap these ingredients?, Would this style flatter my figure?, Will this product work for my home?, etc.?

If you sometimes feel paralyzed by indecisiveness or even just unsure of what to do in various situations, give my worst-case-scenario approach a try. I have a feeling it will liberate you and help you move forward in so many areas of life!

Why A Messy Planner Works for Me!

posted by Andrea | 12/11/2018 | 49 comments

This time of year, I always get so many questions about planners. And due to the craze in Bullet Journaling, lots of these questions have been about any stickers, color-coded systems, or embellishments I add to my planner.

Surprisingly (or maybe not) I don’t add anything to my planner… in fact, my planner is REALLY messy! Today, I’m sharing why my “messy planner” works for me!
