However, before I jump into all the fun and excitement that comes with running an organizing blog in January, I want to take a moment to officially share our family’s 2019 Christmas card here on the blog. I designed it myself with free software and I’m so happy with how it turned out!

simple holiday gifts

I love giving simple holiday gifts to all the special people in our lives. However, my clutter-free lifestyle means I’m always searching for disposable and consumable gifts. And since I give LOTS of gifts, I need to come up with a way to keep the cost and time-commitment in check.

My gift idea this year is quite possibly my simplest one yet! In fact, I made more than 30 gift bags in under 30 minutes for under $30! Get the details (and free printable gift tags) in today’s post!

It’s that time of year again — when I take a little time away from my computer to enjoy a change of pace with everyone home from school.

I’ll “see” you back here again on New Year’s Day! Until then, here is our family’s 2018 Christmas Card! Merry Christmas!

My Great Aunt’s Spiced Molasses Cookies!

posted by Andrea | 12/19/2018 | 30 comments

Growing up, one birthday tradition I loved more than most was when my great aunt Hilda (my mom’s aunt) brought us a huge platter of her delicious homemade spiced molasses cookies.

I never got her recipe before she passed away… but then, 2 weeks ago, after a conversation with a distant relative, I stumbled across the recipe and have been enjoying these delicious cookies once again!

posted by Andrea | 11/14/2018 | 61 comments

I wasn’t planning to do a post about “simplifying Christmas”, just yet (I want to enjoy Thanksgiving first!)

But after receiving an astonishing number of emails, comments, and Facebook messages requesting this type of post, I decided to share 5 things we do (or rather DON’T do) to simplify our holiday season — specifically Christmas.

Merry Christmas!

As I’ve done for many, many years, I’m taking off the week between Christmas and New Years to enjoy a few lazy days at home with Dave and the kids.

But first, I’m sharing a few pictures of our newly minted 3 month old baby girl!!

Our Christmas Decor – 2017

posted by Andrea | 12/12/2017 | 16 comments

For the past several years, I’ve displayed fewer and fewer Christmas decorations — partially because our home is naturally “festive” with all the red and white I decorate with year-round, but also because it’s a big pain with little kids!

However, a few weeks ago, I let the kids decorate the tree all on their own (it was crazy) while I put a few more festive decorations up. It’s not magazine worthy, but it’s good enough for us this year!

Maybe Busyness Isn’t Always Bad

posted by Andrea | 01/6/2017 | 7 comments

Sometimes, I think we get sucked into thinking that all busyness is bad, unnecessary, and something that could or should be avoided — like if our lives are busy, we’re doing something wrong.

But in reality, busy times are often just part of life. They are not always avoidable, nor are they always bad…

As I’ve done for many years now, I’ll be taking the week between Christmas and New Years as a short blogging break. It’s such a nice time to step away from my computer and social media for a few days, and I always come back after the New Year with so many blog post topics and ideas!

Today I’m sharing our 2016 Christmas card, and a little bit about what I hope to do (and not do) over our Christmas break!

Live or Artificial? My Internal Christmas Tree Debate

posted by Andrea | 12/16/2016 | 46 comments

Although I was fairly certain we would get a live tree once we were living out on our own, Dave and I have been using a thrift store artificial Christmas tree for the past 11 Christmases 🙂

Every year I have some sort of internal debate about if we should keep using our artificial tree or go buy a real one…
